Attributing motives to countries[edit]

Surely if a country can be "eager" (your wording) it can also be "envious"? In fact, as you are probably aware, it is a standard way of speaking to ascribe motives, feelings and actions to countries. It's not just me saying so, and it's a misunderstanding to say this is what Wikipedia describes as a "POV". The Red Hat of Pat Ferrick^t 14:56, 18 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello there. thanks you for your edit to Tomé Pires. Could you please place those references as in-line cites rather than a list at the end. Did you really use all those refs to create the additional info. Copying material from other articles[edit]

If you are going to copy material from other articles, often a bad idea if the other material isn't cited, you must indicate what article it came from, the easiest permanent way to do this is with a wikilink in the edit summary. This is an absolute requirement as that is the only way attribution to the original editor can be traced. Not to do this is actually a copyright violation as it breaks our licenses. Thanks. Links to the licenses are right under this edit window, where it says you release your contributions. As for the 'arguably' language, what's interesting about that is that it is word for word from one of Gavin Menzies' pages, however that is copyright 2008 and the text in the Cantino article was added 19 October 2007. I'm trying to get the Internet archives to tell more more about the Menzies page, but it isn't working right now. In any case, it's unsourced and I all I could find is that the other map says 1500 on it. Dougweller (talk) 16:24, 19 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Diffie reference[edit]

Hi. I looked at the pages you cited for Diffie's Foundations of the Portuguese empire, 1415-1580, but I couldn't find all the info you added from those pages. For example, Rafael Perestrello landing on the coast of China in 1513 isn't mentioned. His name also doesn't come up when you search that book on GoogleBooks. Could you help clarify your sources?
