October 2023[edit]

Hello, Wikivgd. Thank you for helping to build Wikipedia-- the world's largest free content encyclopedia. The page Draft:State of Matter Apparel has been speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This was done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seemed to be unambiguous advertising which only promoted a company, group, product, service, person, or point of view and would need to have been fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

This article needs to be rewritten from scratch from reliable, third party sources unconnected to the subject. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia. It is not an outlet for promotion, advocacy, or advertising.

Information on content and common pitfalls to avoid can be located here and here, however be aware that this is not an exhaustive list. Pages can sometimes avoid these pitfalls and still be seen as an ad copy or unambiguously promotional, particularly if the editor appears to be a paid editor or has some other conflict of interest. Please review these policies, including the FAQ page on organizations to determine if this applies to you.

Common mistakes or beliefs about promotional editing center on the assumption that promotional editing only applies to promotion for commercial gain. Some tags or G11 nominations are met with confusion by creators, particularly if they spend much time reading or creating corporate documents, mission/vision statements, or similar copy for their organization. The frequent exposure to promotional tone may make it difficult to notice non-neutral phrases or styles, as the editor has grown accustomed to seeing it as everyday writing or speech. This can be difficult, but not impossible, to unlearn.

Another common assumption is that the prohibition against promotional editing applies only to businesses or organizations. Anything can be promoted, including a person, a non-commercial organization, a point of view, etc. and CV/resumé's are by their nature promotional.

Wikipedia is an encyclopedia-- subjects must meet notability guidelines with reliable sources that are unconnected with the subject and providing verifiable information. That generally means someone unconnected with the subject needs to have written a great deal about the subject. Please see this page on citing sources and Wikipedia:Common sourcing mistakes (notability). This page has templates you can use in citing your sources. Place the template {{Reflist}} at the bottom of the page, and references cited in the text will appear there. New article creation can be difficult, but the Article Wizard can help you. The new user tutorial can help you avoid future problems. You can ask for help at Wikipedia:WikiProject Articles for creation/Help desk and on IRC chat Wikipedia:The Wikipedia Adventure is a useful tutorial.

New article creation can be difficult and frustrating. Sometimes it is better to first gain experience by fixing and helping maintain existing articles. Dear Administrator Deepfriedokra,
I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to appeal the indefinite block placed on my account, as identified as a sockpuppet. I would like to clarify the intentions behind my edits and express my commitment to adhering to Wikipedia's guidelines henceforth.
Upon reviewing the guidelines concerning sockpuppetry, I am not completely sure why I have been flagged as such. This is my only account with Wikipedia. If you think I am the other person that tried to submit the wikipedia, I am not.
I am willing to take any necessary steps to rectify the situation and am open to suggestions and guidance from experienced editors and administrators.
I value the Wikipedia community and the platform's commitment to providing accurate and unbiased information to the public. I sincerely hope to be given an opportunity to contribute positively to Wikipedia again.
Thank you very much for your time and consideration. I look forward to hearing from you and am willing to provide any further information or clarification you may require.
Warmest regards,
Tim (WikiVGD) Wikivgd (talk) 16:24, 16 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
What is your connection with Dominikmitch (talk · contribs), please?-- Deepfriedokra (talk) 16:36, 16 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Good morning DeepfriedOkra,
A friend owns the brand State of Matter. I am unaffiliated with them, but said I can try to help put up a wikipage for their brand.
Dominikmitch is someone that I found on a freelancer site. They said they could help but it actually looks like they made things much worse for me.
I have since ceased communication with them as it seems like they are scammers and have tried getting hundreds of $ from me saying they needed to pay admins to get the page up.
Since ceasing communication with them, I tried editing the page myself (see the last edit that was suspended).
I was not trying to make it sound advertising, but give an unbiased account of the brand itself.
1) I apologize for trying to have someone else put this up. I do not have any affiliation with this account.
2) Any help in figuring out how to get the page up that I was attempting to get up would be greatly appreciated! I thought it I had a decently unbiased page, but apparently was quite wrong!
Sincerly,
Tim
PS. I'm from Florida. I love me some deep fried Okra! Wikivgd (talk) 14:40, 18 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
(Yeah, you look like another undeclared paid editor.) I'm afraid you will not be unblocked to help out your friend. Please read and heed WP:COI and WP:PAID. Please feel free to describe what constructive edits you would make that don't involve promotional editing. Feel free to address the reasons for your block by using the unblock request template--
{{unblock|Your reason here ~~~~}}
filling in the "Your reason here part." Thanks-- Deepfriedokra (talk) 14:53, 18 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I am most definitely not a paid editor, and can see now that I have too much of a relationship with the brand owner.
That being said, I understand the block now. Anything I can do to rectify that? Not that it is of importance.
Is there any way to get this State of Matter Apparel wikipedia up? Wikivgd (talk) 15:17, 18 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I would not think so. Sorry, no. -- Deepfriedokra (talk) 16:19, 18 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Are there any "Declared Paid Editors" I can connect with to help with this process? Wikivgd (talk) 17:16, 18 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Uh, no. That would still be sock puppetry. With each edit, I'm afraid you make it clearer you have one purpose on Wikipedia. Please tell your friend to find some other way to advertise. Some way that is not Wikipedia. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia. It is not a bulletin board for advertisers. -- Deepfriedokra (talk) 17:28, 18 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Coolio, was going to reco it to him anyway. Trying to get the full scope of brands and their ability to be put on this site.
They/we are not trying to deceive anyone, just list their brand online as a sustainable fashion brand, similar to the below pages:
Seems like these should all be marked as such and taken down as well, no?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Clothing_brands
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/H%26M
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Calvin_Klein_(fashion_house)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Abercrombie_%26_Fitch_brands
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Perry_Ellis_International_brands
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A.K.O.O._Clothing
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lonely_(fashion_label)
There seems to be 172 of them listed on this page alone. Wikivgd (talk) 21:47, 18 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
