Hi WillJonassen! Thanks for contributing to Wikipedia.
Be our guest at the Teahouse! The Teahouse is a friendly space where new editors can ask questions about contributing to Wikipedia and get help from peers and experienced editors. I hope to see you there! Rosiestep (I'm a Teahouse host)

User page categories

[edit]

There are, for the record, various categories available which were designed specifically for user pages — you can find them by browsing Category:Wikipedians — but they're an internal administration tree which is basically firewalled from the actual content categories (the ones that are meant for real articles.) In the Wikipedians tree, what you'll find is that the categories are interest-based, rather than being broad general occupational descriptions; they're designed to flag your interest in collaborating on specific topics rather than as simple descriptors of what you are. So you might find a category for "Wikipedians who are interested in German literature", or for "Wikipedians in a specific city", but you might not find some more general groupings that don't necessarily connote a specific topic of interest. Hope that helps a bit :-) Bearcat (talk) 20:53, 10 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Opting in to VisualEditor

[edit]

As you may know, VisualEditor ("Edit beta") is currently available on the English Wikipedia only for registered editors who choose to enable it. Since you have made 50 or more edits with VisualEditor this year, I want to make sure that you know that you can enable VisualEditor (if you haven't already done so) by going to your preferences and choosing the item, "MediaWiki:Visualeditor-preference-enable". This will give you the option of using VisualEditor on articles and userpages when you want to, and give you the opportunity to spot changes in the interface and suggest improvements. We value your feedback, whether positive or negative, about using VisualEditor, at Wikipedia:VisualEditor/Feedback. Thank you, Whatamidoing (WMF) (talk) 20:18, 11 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
