Fair use rationale for Image:Cltcl guitar.png[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Cltcl guitar.png. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. Freddie Mercury[edit]

Please don't add unfree images to the article they will just be removed because there are free ones available. CambridgeBayWeather Have a gorilla 08:20, 2 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

OK, I will help out here by adding a non-free rationale. These rationales are not at all uncommon, and I talk about this a lot on the Freddie Mercury talk page. In fact, you will notice that some pages even have little clips of copyrighted music on them. As long you can make that case that profits could not be made from this, then there is no real problem. By the way, as the person designated to maintain the Freddie page (I pretty much made it into a Good Article), I agree with your decision to remove that UGLY 1984 image. As fans, I think that we can all agree here that the photo does not look like Freddie and that it has no educational purpose whatsoever. Good call. Boab (talk) 19:56, 2 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Replaceable fair use Image:Freddie41.jpg[edit]

Replaceable fair use
Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Freddie41.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. CambridgeBayWeather Have a gorilla 19:10, 3 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Image on Freddie's Site[edit]

Hi Winterboxblues, You have made some nice images for the Freddie site. I also share many of the same concerns as you do about the poor quality of the 1984 photo. I also just added a lengthy discussion of the non-free use rationale, so that should help. Unfortunately, I think that a lot of people mistakenly think that non-free images can never be used. Others incorrectly believe this to be a very rare thing, when it is in fact quite common. This is true also on Featured Articles, and I show a whole lot of examples in my discussion on the Freddie page. Finally, many people are not aware that the primary criterion for using non-free images involves EQUIVALENCE rather than whether the image could conceivably be replaced with one that is vastly inferior. Hopefully we can work together in order to get something up there that has some kind of educational purpose to it. If not, then I say that we remove that ugly thing that does not even resemble the Freddie that we know and love. Boab (talk) 01:40, 6 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
