Welcome!

Hello, WynnAnne, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your messages on discussion pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question on this page and then place {{helpme}} before the question. Again, welcome!

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. We appreciate your contributions, but for legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted.

You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words.

If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must include on the external site the statement "I, (name), am the author of this article, (article name), and I release its content under the terms of the GNU Free Documentation License, Version 1.2 and later, and under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribute Share-Alike."

You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question at the "Help Desk". You can also leave a message on my talk page.

Welcome to Wikipedia. Everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia. However, please do not add promotional material to articles or other Wikipedia pages. Advertising and using Wikipedia as a "soapbox" are against Wikipedia policy and not permitted. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about Wikipedia. Thank you. No, really. I'm sure you mean well, but we cannot accept your copyrighted text. If you would like to see about donating the text for our use, you can visit WP:IOWN. Please realize though that (1) your preferred text will not remain inviolate (in fact it may likely be edited moments after you put it up) and (2) the text that you are attempting to contribute is overly promotional and is therefore unsuitable for the encyclopedia (tho perfectly understandable when it comes directly from the website promoting your organization). Do not reintroduce the copyright violation text again, or I will have to block your account to prevent damage to the encyclopedia. Syrthiss (talk) 17:44, 2 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

By the way - if you want to communicate with me, you can edit this page below these comments. That last edit looked fine, for what its worth. Syrthiss (talk) 17:59, 2 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the feedback. Holy moley. Complicated way of communicating - I couldn't figure out how to reply to you, and I couldn't re-find the message you sent me after it had disappeared!
As for "signing" -- I've read the suggestion to use four tildes, but it doesn't say WHERE to put said symbols -- in the edit summary box? In the article? After each change?

I wanted to set up a discussion page about the CANARIE entry, but could not (even with the many, many pages of help provided) figure out how to do so. The entry as it exists is wildly out of date. If I continue to make minor non-copyrighted not-cut-and-paste changes, will I be okay? WynnAnne (talk) 18:04, 2 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Yep, and sorry. Most of us are so used to communicating this way that we forget people may not realize how to do it. Yes, please feel free to make those changes. You can even do major changes of non-copyrightes text, just avoid promotional text especially when it is unsupported (ie you can say it is the fastest network, but you need a reliable source external to your organization who says that). Syrthiss (talk) 18:08, 2 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
And don't worry about the signing anywhere except here or other talk pages. The article edits don't need to be signed, nor do your edit summaries. Syrthiss (talk) 18:09, 2 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. Would you mind keeping watching the CANARIE page for me? I'll make incremental changes, so you can overwrite anything that violates Wikipedia policy. WynnAnne (talk) 18:15, 2 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Sure thing. I have it on my watchlist, which means I will see when changes are done to it (tho I may disappear here soon for today). Syrthiss (talk) 18:18, 2 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

How do I add references? I would like to cite an Industry Canada announcement.WynnAnne (talk) 19:00, 2 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I am unable to figure out how to link/insert the graphic into the CANARIE page. Any hints or tips will be greatly appreciated!WynnAnne (talk) 16:57, 4 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

AAaaaand, today, suddenly, it worked. I'm sure I didn't try anything different from other times. But I'm not complaining. WynnAnne (talk) 17:11, 4 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
