Welcome!

[edit]

Hello, XDAREx, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your messages on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question on this page and then place {{help me}} before the question. Again, welcome!

Based on the last three (it doesn't meet any of them yet), the article you've written is subject to instant deletion via WP:PROD, WP:CSD, or WP:AFD. Rather than have that happen, I seriously and supportively suggest that you Move the article into User space

such as User:XDAREx/Palaver_(IRC client)

so that it can be developed, and sources added. This is called WP:Userfication. Wikipedia isn't here to WP:PROMO, but to document significant things which have already come to prominence, as documented by discussion in independent reliable sources over a period of time. I support the documentation of IRC clients, but on Wikipedia, the requirements of this encyclopedia come first. You might also consider Wikia.com in the meantime. --Lexein (talk) 18:31, 25 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I see you've copied the article to your Userspace - but when I said "Move", I meant using the "Move" operation in the top nav bar. Any given article must only exist in one place. WP:Userfication uses Move, not copy/paste, so that the article and its Talk page, and edit history for both, are preserved.
Also, the sources you've added do not yet meet WP:RS - if you had read WP:RS or WP:V, you would have known that forums are not reliable sources. Really.
I recommend you self-delete the mainspace article by adding {{db-self}} to the top of Palaver (IRC client) and continue work on the Userspace version. I wish you both patience and perseverance. It may be many months, or even years before Palaver meets Wikipedia WP:N notability policy - please read the policies and guidelines I've listed above. --Lexein (talk) 22:06, 25 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Alright, well thanks for the information. I never had intentions to explicitly promote this software, I just thought it was useful to put the information out there. Seems I greatly underestimated the amount of rules and restrictions on Wikipedia! I'll look up more stuff and learn a few things before thoughtlessly adding pages. Palaver (IRC client) has been flagged for deletion ;) --XDAREx (talk) 22:15, 25 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, it's impossible to grasp it all at once. That's why WP:42 exists - to tie it all together on one page in a digestible way. The WP:Article wizard and WP:Articles for creation process exist to guide editors to all the useful info step by step, before an article goes "live". It's natural to promote - that's tempered by relying only on independent sources - they'll generally keep one on the straight and narrow. I think you weren't thoughtless at all, given your responsiveness to my comments, and the fact that you were willing to delete your article candidate from mainspace is a huge feather in your cap as an editor. I hope you persist in developing it in userspace, and I hope you contribute to improving other Wikipedia articles, too, in your spare time(whatever that is)! Again, patience and perseverance to you. --Lexein (talk) 22:53, 25 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

In response to your feedback

There are some good recommendations on your talk page. I'd also recommend this primer as a good guide for writing articles.
