Oh for god's sake, not another barnstar.

Now I'm going to have to go and change IP address again. And I was just getting to like this one! Oh well :( – 86.149.9.24 22:16, 27 September 2007 (UTC)

Why would you be upset by getting a barnstar? You should be proud because they are only awarded to people who really deserve them. NASCAR Fan24(radio me!) 22:17, 27 September 2007 (UTC)
No, they aren't. I haven't believed that since I was given seven in one day for doing basically nothing. They're awarded to people who revert a bit of vandalism – in this case, fewer than 100 edits. They aren't awarded to the hardest-working people (article writers) – 86.133.139.4 10:01, 28 September 2007 (UTC)

Regarding 86.149.24

Yea, he got mad at me as well for helping him. I would suggest not communicating with him unless you want him/her to continue posting a template message on your usertalk. That user does not like messages of any kind (just to let you know). Tiptoety 23:31, 27 September 2007 (UTC)

Alcoholics Anonymous

Please take note, that the edit that I did was a serious edit. As per another editors comment:

"The ruling of the Arbitration Committee specifically states that in scientific articles references must be from reliable third-party, unbiased sources. This means they must come from peer-reviewed literature. Self-published literature, such as the essay by Jeffrey A. Schaler published on his own site, does not meet these standards. I'm going to remove all material with such citations. -- Craigtalbert 10:35, 28 September 2007 (UTC)"

I was simply removing all self published items on alcoholics anonymous, a deeply scientific organisation, with several deeply scientific aspects to its hostory and theories, as I stated on the talk page. Please don't think that I am disrupting wikipedia to make a point (i'm not). I am simply applying the same principles to the article as others have.

Also, please take note, I have tried to report others for various aspects of their behaviour, have put in for a peer review and someone else has requested arbitration. All of this has been to no avail. So, unless you can help achieving NPOV on the article, I would be grateful if you could turn your bot off. Thank you. 82.19.66.37 20:15, 28 September 2007 (UTC)

First of all, Twinkle is not a bot. Secondly, you removed a large amount of content from the article and claimed you were removing "unsourced information". So that's why you were warned for an inappropriate edit summary. NASCAR Fan24(radio me!) 20:50, 28 September 2007 (UTC)
"(cur) (last) 19:45, 28 September 2007 ClueBot (Talk | contribs) (43,602 bytes) (Reverting possible vandalism by Special:Contributions/82.19.66.37. If this is a mistake, report it. Thanks, ClueBot. (Bot))"
firstly, interesting edit summary from someone/thing that isn't a bot. Why have "bot" in ones name? Secondly, I was removing information that was not sourced properly, according to "consensus" (not a consensus that I agreed with, so not really consensus at all...) on the group. And I mentioned this precise reason in the edit summary "self published". However, if twinkle is not a bot, please have a word with her/him (I assume it was a her....) and ask that she look into things more carefully in future. I am working/battling very hard to make an article NPOV. The subtleties of this are more than can be understood from a quick look. The are several other edits to this article which have not been reverted. Perhaps you could have a look at them as well? Or alternatively, why not assume good faith and ask me why BEFORE making these changes? Whatever your motives, I assure you (and experienced wiki editors/admins will tell you), there are no blanket solutions. Please HELP, don't hinder. 82.19.66.37 22:15, 28 September 2007 (UTC)
I made a mistake in warning you, and I apologise for that. But Twinkle is a javascript you can install, and ClueBot is not mine. NASCAR Fan24(radio me!) 22:25, 28 September 2007 (UTC)

Not Criticizing

But is this really a valid warning to use? It's quite likely it is that person putting it up for self-promotion. (Unless there's dirt in the articles I missed.) -WarthogDemon 20:02, 30 September 2007 (UTC)

Whoops, I thought that was putting any personal info in articles! I've removed it now. NASCAR Fan24(radio me!) 20:17, 30 September 2007 (UTC)

Question

User talk:68.54.56.198 is personally attacking me and an admin on his talkpage. I tried to get the page semi'd, but it was declined because the admin there said he didn't see how it violated WP:NPA. I guess calling User:Haemo a "damned fool" and labelling me as a page-owner isn't classed as a personal attack these days. Oh yes, and they are abusing the unblock template by claiming they didn't touch the page, when they have a long rap sheet of adding spam links. NASCAR Fan24(radio me!) 00:43, 4 October 2007 (UTC)

I dont think too many Admin's check this helpme stuff. I would recomment putting a report on the Administrators Noticeboard. Seems to be a very effective tool. But since the block was not released, there must be something he did wrong; assuming it is the personal attacks. - Rjd0060 01:07, 4 October 2007 (UTC)
I say bring that to the noticeboard promptly.--NightRider63 01:37, 4 October 2007 (UTC)

Re:Secret page

Thanks for the barnstar. My suggestion would be to use another person's userspace, or create a different account dedicated to it. Then it'll be harder to look it up on Special:Allpages. --Hirohisat 紅葉 21:43, 5 October 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for fixing that page for me. I was in the process of doing it, but got an edit conflict and saw you had already done it! Twinkle sure messed that one up...I don't even know what happened. Anyway, thanks again! --Ioeth (talk contribs friendly) 22:27, 6 October 2007 (UTC)

Ha, that's what it was! I must have missed it when I copied the text from the Tesoro Entertainment afd I had just submitted. --Ioeth (talk contribs friendly) 22:32, 6 October 2007 (UTC)

I would like to caution you about a few of your contributions to the Articles for Deletion process, namely, your use of the word policy.

I don't know how much exposure you've had to the rules of Wikipedia or its process. However, "policy" has a very specific meaning on Wikipedia. There are many rules -- the guidelines -- on Wikipedia that are not considered policies, and thus they have a different implementation. Essays, on the other hand, are suggestions from other Wikipedians but don't carry any official weight. I noticed that you called both WP:NEO (a guideline) and WP:COAT (an essay) "policies" in recent AfD discussions.

I would recommend that you take the time to read Wikipedia:Policies and guidelines to familiarize yourself with the differences between the three. Or, if you're already aware and this was a simple oversight, you might want to be more careful in the future. This is both for your benefit -- so that you maintain a high level of credibility by appearing that you understand Wikipedia process -- and for the benefit of others -- so that conversation doesn't become confused or inaccurate.

Cheers, and happy wiki'ing. - Che Nuevara 13:11, 7 October 2007 (UTC)

Removed AFD !vote (notify/explain)

Hey man... shortly after completing my nomination of Wuya for deletion I realized that there are about 5 other related articles that all should fall under the AFD. I added all of them, and removed your !vote (since you got to the AFD before I had added the rest of the articles). I'm just notifying you of my action, and asking that you re-evaluate the AFD and re-add your input. You can find it all at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Wuya. Thanks. /Blaxthos 15:25, 7 October 2007 (UTC)

Help?

{{helpme}} I've got a secret page hidden within my userspace. If you find it, you sign the page, and you get a little award, and that's the end of it. However, User:Xterra1 couldn't find it (i.e. fell for my red herring), and he decided to post a note on my talkpage whining about that fact. After a few days of trying, he found it, and promptly decided to post a link to it on his userpage. I want it removed, and he has threatened to report it as vandalism if I do. Do I have the authority to remove it? Should I leave it alone? Thanks in advance. NASCAR Fan24(radio me!) 00:37, 9 October 2007 (UTC)

I've moved the page, but I still want the link removed. NASCAR Fan24(radio me!) 00:40, 9 October 2007 (UTC)

Peru Surfing

Hi, I've added a number of sources since you last commented on "Who Invented Surfing" I'd appreciate your looking at the new documents especially #4. Also, Henning has written a lot about surfing including one book about Polynesia...his reseach indicates Peru as the origin and is generally accepted in the most of "Knowledgable" surfing community. The authors and their credentials of Document 4 are a sign of this acceptance. Surfmac2004 21:18, 10 October 2007 (UTC)

Off-Wiki personal attack?

I would say so, but I don't know what you can do about it. - Rjd0060 02:04, 11 October 2007 (UTC)
Should I go bother the admins at WP:ANI and see what they can do about it? NASCAR Fan24(radio me!) 10:36, 11 October 2007 (UTC)
I don't think they would be able to do anything. I think your best bet is to ask them (nicely) to take that content down. :-) Stwalkerster talk 10:41, 11 October 2007 (UTC)
Upon a second viewing, I am not sure that this was actually intended as an attack. :-) Stwalkerster talk 11:18, 11 October 2007 (UTC)
Well, I don't think it is in invitation to brunch. But, WP:ANI probably cannot do anything about it. I think there really is nothing you can do, other than ask to remove it. - Rjd0060 16:27, 11 October 2007 (UTC)

How can I increase "notability"?

Sockpuppet blocked, but should the sockpuppeteer have been too?

{{helpme}} Hi there. I reported a sockpuppet at Wikipedia:Suspected sock puppets/I Am Mclovin and requested a checkuser at Wikipedia:Requests for checkuser/Case/I Am Mclovin. The sockpuppet was blocked. My question is, isn't a sockpuppeteer blocked too? They have not been blocked, but have not edited since I reported them. NASCAR Fan24(radio me!) 12:08, 13 October 2007 (UTC)

Hi. I have scoured sockpuppetry policy carefully (as I was once a sockpuppeteer) - yes, the sockpuppeteer should be blocked too, for a period of two weeks, then I believe it escalates to one, two, six and then twelve months for subsequent offences. After that I believe it's either two years or indefinite. Auroranorth 12:16, 13 October 2007 (UTC)

Hello

Hi there. It's more than likely that removing that medical question will lead to endless 'discussion' on the talk page, and possibly lead to you being labelled as something or other, but don't worry about it (Unless a posse of admins suggests you're on the way to a ban! But I think that would take longer, and is extremely unlikely in this universe). Just remember, if it all gets ugly, that not everybody is there shouting :) Skittle 23:45, 15 October 2007 (UTC)

Can you explain why

You have just deleted the changes I spent two hours making to MY OWN WikiPedia entry??? I'm not a WikiPedia wonk, and I'm not terribly familiar with the interface. I'm trying to update my own page, and having a devil of a time. Then I discover you have labeled my own edits as vandalism. I'd LOVE an explanation. -Eli Cross —Preceding unsigned comment added by PiercedOne (talkcontribs) 01:09, 20 October 2007 (UTC) It's simple - your changes to Eli Cross made the article very unencyclopedic, and they were borderline nonsense. That's considered vandalism. NASCAR Fan24(radio me!) 01:35, 20 October 2007 (UTC)

So you deleted EVERYTHING including the biographical data, the reference links to awards won, the updates to the stage names, the links to additional interviews. You are THE arbiter of all things, aren't you?

Question

Do you need me to do every single one of the reviews? It's very easy. All you have to do is type in the source and my last name. London Law Review

It doesn't cite its sources, there is no evidence to indicate that the Lord Chief Justice is its patron, there are no citations, until recently the organisation's web-site said it was "shut down due to unpaid IT and development fees," and it's quite clear from the edit history that there's been an edit war in recent weeks between one of its operators and its detractors (read: "we hope all has been worked out"). Also, it hasn't issued in over a year. I personally ordered a subscription in May 2005 and I have received no journals since. It is essentially non-existent. Its inclusion in Wikipedia is therefore misleading and the article should be scrapped on the grounds of bias and/or notability. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 217.43.201.174 (talk) 10:47, 22 October 2007 (UTC)

Blocking

Not really. I've sometimes been accused of being too harsh, so I tend to err on the side of caution, especially if it's a snap judgement. What do you think would have been a reasonable ban? Deb 21:34, 22 October 2007 (UTC)

No, I quite understand your arguments. The thing is that, with these people, a short ban is sometimes just as effective as a longer one, because they lose interest and go away, then come back and try again another day - in which case, a 24-hour ban isn't long enough really. (On the Welsh wikipedia, we ban most vandals indefinitely at their first offence, because we haven't got enough contributors to police the pages 24/7 - I often wish we could do that here...) Template help

{{helpme}} How do I enable users to enter a certain string into a template? I'll give an example, as I don't think I know how to explain it. In Template:User contrib, users can enter their number of edits by typing {{User contrib|number of edits}}. How do I enable that in a template? NASCAR Fan24(radio me!) 22:30, 22 October 2007 (UTC)

The string is a "Parameter" to place it you write:
{{{1}}}
or
{{{2}}}
which defines which parameter it is. You can also write:
{{{name}}}
which you would have to write {{tl|name=STRING TO BE ADDED}}. You can see an example at Template:Template sandbox, If you have anymore questions, feel free to ask me on my talkpage.--Sunny910910 (talk|Contributions) 22:51, 22 October 2007 (UTC)

AfD notice at London Law Review

Hi there. I noticed you closed the AfD for London Law Review, but the AfD notice is still on the article. It should probably be removed. I'm letting you know, cos there might be other tidying up that is needed. Carcharoth 14:56, 23 October 2007 (UTC)

Sorry. I see that the current AfD notice is the second nomination! Forget I said anything! Carcharoth 14:57, 23 October 2007 (UTC)

contributing at afd

It is not the custom to use the graphic symbols there. If you are making a comment,an asterisk and the word comment, keep or delete, in bold, is all that is customary. I didnt wantto mention it at the Editor review.DGG (talk) 00:44, 26 October 2007 (UTC)

Is it OK?

Is it alright for this account to be a single-puroise account used to edit lists such as WP:BANNED or WP:MISS? Mr. Carbunkle 05:57, 27 October 2007 (UTC)

About yesterday

Remember when I said that 65.207.61.65 deleted the "Deaths" section of October 2? I was wrong. It was 71.197.108.160 who deleted the "Deaths" section. But now that you've restored the "Deaths" section, you can try and have Twinkle denounce 71.197.108.160 as the real vandal and ban him for good, okay? --Angeldeb82 13:49, 27 October 2007 (UTC)

AfD closures

Thanks for your work closing AfDs. Please remember to remove the AfD notice from the articles when you close them - I've done so for the three you've just done. violet/riga (t) 00:38, 28 October 2007 (UTC)

My RFA

Thanks for giving me some feedback at my RFA. However, I'm not exactly sure what I may have answered wrong on question 5. In my RFA I wrote about it in two ways 1) if it was a content dispute and 2) If it actually was vandalism. In the case of the content dispute, I wrote that I would first give them a 3RR warning, and if they persist, I would give them a block for breaking the 3RR warning. I'm not trying at all to question your reasoning, I just want to know what I might have done wrong for future knowledge. If you could let me know, that would be great! Thanks again for commenting at my RFA! Icestorm815 15:31, 28 October 2007 (UTC)

N.M. Kelby

HI,

I was wondering why you are trying to delete N.M.Kelby...A well-known writer with several novels published by major publishing houses? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Nkelby (talkcontribs) 19:46, 21 October 2007

I am Risa, NMKelby's assistant. I have been trying to list her on this service. Go to Amazon and check. She is a well-known writer. Why do you keep taking her off? I created an account in her name so that she can edit this entry on her own. Why is that an issue> —Preceding unsigned comment added by Nkelby (talkcontribs) 19:00, 21 October 2007 (UTC)
as the reviewing administrator,at least it cannot be deleted via speedy! If an article about a person so much as asserts or indicates any importance or notability, then it is not eligible for speedy. If you doubt the person is sufficiently important, then it is necessary to use PROD or AFD. I see you have done this. Good. Let's see if any references can be found. If have explained again to Nkelby about WP:COI.
By the way,for articles like Max Slattery, saying "If records are correct slattery is known to have fathered over 1543 children.", you can also use a speedy deletion reason of G1 - Nonsense. They usually get deleted faster.
But, as a suggestion, it would help to indicate that you know the difference at afd between the many articles that should be deleted and the minority that should be kept. though I usually comment there only for the articles worth saving--in my admittedly generous opinion--My own !votes there are about 1/3 to delete. Showing a clear understanding of policy is especially important because you are moving very fast in dealing with deletion process. DGG (talk) 19:40, 21 October 2007 (UTC)

we have added reviews...you can verify them easily. Also, there are several awards and grants...that also makes Mrs. Kelby a writer to be noted. We would like the chance to edit this as time goes on. Dwight Yoakam is making the movie of WHALE SEASON but the pending writer's strike has put that on hold. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Nkelby (talkcontribs) 19:59, 21 October 2007 (UTC)

NASVAR Fan 24:

I'm not sure why you are having such an issue. I typed in NYTimes and Kelby. #3 was this link:

http://partners.nytimes.com/books/01/05/06/home/contents.html

Do you need me to do every single one of the reviews? It's very easy. All you have to do is type in the source and my last name. Or, you could just go to Random House's website and look at the, there. Or Hyperion's website. They are reputable publishers. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Nkelby (talkcontribs) 20:12, 21 October 2007 (UTC)

I deleted this exchange because I thought it was no longer of any use and felt that since I was the author of it I had every right to do so. I am sorry you feel differently. I noticed that it was published on the web (I can google it) and now it is public. It was never my intent to have this be public. This appeared to be an in-house communication. I was not trying to cause any ill will or embarrassment for Mrs. Kelby, and now it seems as though I have. It seems quite unfair. I will not bother you again. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Nkelby (talkcontribs) 15:10, 30 October 2007 (UTC)

Alan Keyes - Good Article review

Alright, I fixed the three citations. I found a good source for one, an ok source for the other, and deleted one fact because I couldn't find any sources. The ok source is from the diplomat section. The only thing I could find was an article about the straw polls from his election campaign site. I'll remove it if you think its unreliable. Let me know. The deleted fact was pretty contentious, so if unsourced, its better off being deleted anyway. One other question. I noticed in the review under "No original research" the article received a "?". Is there something questionable in the article that I can fix? In any case, I think this covers what you wanted. I've posted this on the discussion page as well. Thanks for reviewing this. I also appreciate getting the chance to make the last few changes to get this up to snuff. --Jdcaust 18:34, 30 October 2007 (UTC)
