August 2023[edit]

Information icon Hello, I'm PamD. I noticed that you made an edit concerning content related to a living (or recently deceased) person on Steve Tuckwell, but you didn't support your changes with a citation to a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now. Wikipedia has a very strict policy concerning how we write about living people, so please help us keep such articles accurate and clear. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. The sources in the article do not support the changes you made. PamD 17:27, 7 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Please stop[edit]

Wikipedia only includes information which is published elsewhere in Reliable sources, so please stop changing Steve Tuckwell away from what the sources say. PamD 05:59, 8 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Pam d what you post is wrong factually incorrect. Xuerebr (talk) 06:08, 8 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
If there are published sources which give other information, then add them. Otherwise, please stop adding unsourced content. PamD 06:23, 8 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
This doesn’t make sense. Take it down it’s not true. You need to post information that is true. You are talking about me. You need to make the change to factual information. Xuerebr (talk) 06:26, 8 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hallo Rachel, Wikipedia cannot include information which is not sourced to reliable sources. I tried to find something published which used "wife" rather than "partner" but only found a Getty images caption, which cannot be taken as "reliable" but which did lead me to think that your user name suggests that you have a Conflict of interest and should not be editing his article (een before I read your statement above). The word "partner" does not mean "not wife", it's a broad and inclusive term.
Wikipedia has a system where people can report information about themselves which they feel is inaccurate: please see Wikipedia:Contact us/Article subjects.
If there is a published report of a speech in which Steve thanks his wife Rachel for her support in the campaign, then that would be a good, reliable source. If there was a newspaper item "Local councillor marries...", that would do. As it is, we are using what his own party published about him, at https://www.hillingdonconservatives.org/people/cllr-steve-tuckwell, which ought to be a rock-solid reliable source. If that is wrong, he needs to ask them to correct it.
Please do not remove sourced content from the encyclopedia. I'm sorry this is difficult for you, but that's how Wikipedia works. Get him to give a well-reported speech mentioning his wife and family, or get that Hillingdon Conservatives page corrected, and that will be a good source. Please note that as his wife you should not update the article yourself, but add any new well-sourced information to the talk page, where someone else will notice it and update the article if appropriate. PamD 07:27, 8 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Rereading the two sources, I've minimised the wording, reducing it to what is unambiguously in the sources. PamD 07:36, 8 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Managing a conflict of interest[edit]

Information icon Hello, Xuerebr. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on the page Steve Tuckwell, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. PamD 07:28, 8 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The above is a standard "boiler-plate" message, but I gave the gist of it in the section above. PamD 07:30, 8 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
What I am not happy with is what you are writing. So how do I process a complaint please. Thank you for your support. Xuerebr (talk) 07:45, 8 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I gave you link above, and it leads also to Wikipedia:FAQ/Article subjects, but the bottom line is that Wikipedia includes information which is published in reliable independent published sources, such as the Hillingdon Conservatives page and the newspaper. Wikipedia does not include inforation which individual editors assert. Please stop reverting the changes. If you can provide an appropriate source, please make an edit to the talk page for the article, providing a source, and someone will change the aarticle appropriately. As his wife you should not edit the article, as explained in WP:COI which I linked above. PamD 07:59, 9 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Pam thanks. I thought the guidelines stated no unreliable source can make the change. I will place it in the talk page as you’ve mentioned. Xuerebr (talk) 08:07, 9 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
But note: "providing a source". That means a reliable independent published source. PamD 08:11, 9 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Please think about this: Wikipedia cannot accept any editor saying "I am xyz, I know abc, this article is wrong, you must change it." That would allow any random person to claim to be the subject of an article, or their family member or whatever, and to introduce unreliable content. This is an encyclopedia, not a gossip sheet, so we cannot incude unsubstantiated information.
There is more information at Wikipedia:Notable_person_survival_kit, and you can post at Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons/Noticeboard, but I am pretty confident that other editors will take the same line as I have. Sorry, but that is how the encyclopedia works. Best thing, get the Hillingdon Conservatives to update their profile page, or get Steve to mention you and the children in a speech which gets reported publicly. It's a pity we're in the recess so it will be a while before he makes his maiden speech. Were you mentioned in his victory night speech, and if so did that get reported in full anywhere? PamD 08:10, 9 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Ok this is now making sense. So I can see what you mean by reliable sources. Obviously as his wife I believe I am a reliable source. But as you say. How do you know. And so I have to say thank you for being so diligent on your management of this site. Yes I got a mention in his speech when he thanked me. But let’s do this properly and ensure the conservative U&SR web page is correct and then you can take your feed from there. Thank you for your time in this matter. Xuerebr (talk) 09:16, 9 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hallo Rachel, I'm so glad that you can now understand Wikipedia's approach. It is difficult for a lot of people to get their heads round: "The article is about me / my partner / my boss, so of course I'm the person best equipped to edit it, and I know their birth date / marital status / family background even though it hasn't been published anywhere" - but we don't know who any editor is, so we have to use what has been published elsewhere. Wikipedia is especially protective of living people - eg a new article on a living person which doesn't have any sources gets deleted automatically ("WP:PRODBLP"). Get the right information online in a nice reliable place, add a note to the talk page to say so and give the source, and it will be sorted out. Thanks for understanding.
