Hello, I appreciate your edit on Sarfraz Ali (general) but I'm reverting the award section since he had not received the 35 years service medal since he was commissioned in 1989. 2022 - 1989 = 33 years of service. SahafatKaLover18 (talk) 14:23, 9 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

In Pakistan, service is counted from the day you enter the academy, not the you're commissioned. The day of commissioning signifies date of Seniority among other officers.
Just to prove it further, visit this link and check the photo of all the Air Force Officers promoted to Air Vice Marshal.
https://pakobserver.net/eight-pakistan-air-force-officers-made-air-vice-marshal/
If you see read the bio, all the officers, including the one on the top right (AVM Imran Qadir) and the four Engineering officers below, they are all commissioned in May/June 1992 and yet they are wearing the 35 years service medal. By your calculation, that makes their service 31 years. Until 1995, GD(P) spent four years as cadets before commissioning as officers (2 years at PAF College Sargodha, now PAF Cadet College, and then for pilot training they went to Risalpur.
Engineering officers still spent 4 years as cadets because of their degree program.
All these officers went to the academy in 1987/88 (because all of them are wearing Jamhuriat Medal (1988) issued on the orders of the then PM Benazir Bhutto because of the restoration of Democracy in Pakistan in 1988. So these officers would have gotten this medal as cadets.
So, these officers all have 35 years service (the ones wearing the medal), 2023-1988 = 35.
I hope you understand now how it works in the military when it comes to service medals. Yeahitsali (talk) 21:57, 9 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
And as for General Sarfaraz, commissioning in March 1989 means he joined the Academy at Kakul in 1987. He would've been issued the medal but i think he never gave it to his tailor to attach it to his other medals or the ribbon patch with other ribbons. Yeahitsali (talk) 22:00, 9 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
