Neutral tone[edit]

I can see you are passionate about yoga; I am too, which is why I have spent so much time on Wikipedia's coverage of modern yoga, asanas, and their history. There is plenty of room for people with energy and enthusiasm on Wikipedia, but there are however some constraints that new people can quickly run into, especially when they edit articles that they feel a strong connection to, whether personally or professionally.

You'll see that I've felt it necessary to undo your changes to Forrest Yoga. This was because Wikipedia must remain neutral in tone and content (the policy is WP:NPOV), and must not give any impression that it exists to promote any cause or business (the policy is WP:PROMO). Updates to articles must therefore be strictly factual; a useful rule of thumb is not to use any adjectives. A further point, if I may trouble you with yet one more policy, is that it is that we can rely on "primary" sources -- those directly related to the subject, in this case the Forrest Yoga website or any of its publications -- only for the simplest of basic neutral facts (founded in year, place). Wikipedia articles are required to use reliable secondary sources (WP:RS) that talk about the subject from outside. I know this is a lot to take on board, but it should explain why articles are written as they are, and why they must be changed only very cautiously.

P. S.

One place where you might feel able to start contributing neutrally but informatively could be with illustrations. Perhaps you would be able to take one or two photographs and upload them for the article? That would be very welcome; you might like to read the guidelines for images. If you have any questions about uploading images, just ask. Basically, as long as you take the photos yourself it's all easy.

All the best, Chiswick Chap (talk) 08:12, 23 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
