Team Strawberry article questions[edit]

The Team Strawberry article looks much better now. I do have some issues.

  • 1) Are there any links to this article from elsewhere on Wikipedia? (wp:orphans issue)
  • 2) Balboa Instruments web site says nothing about the team, or about cycling. Is there mention of their sponsorship elsewhere? If not, remove the reference to their website and hope for the best.
  • 3) I changed HPV RAAM to spell it out. Jargon in headings is to be avoided. OK?
  • 4) Perhaps the final paragraph could be split, but I leave it to your judgment where to do that.

Let me know when you have finished any changes. --DThomsen8 (talk) 15:51, 5 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The final sentence about the development of other measuring devices is a key to the notability issue. Why did Team Strawberry matter? Because other companies developed what Balboa Instruments started, and made them part of the cycling scene. Are these devices mentioned elsewhere in Wikipedia? If not, can you introduce information about them to the appropriate articles, and then link back to Team Strawberry when that is done? Of course, you need references, but you have them or can develop them.
New articles are more often deleted than not, but this article has attracted help and updates from others, and once the notability issue is overcome, that template can be removed, and next the talk page can have a cycling project rating for the article. --DThomsen8 (talk) 11:52, 9 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Good points. I can work on that. Give me a day or two to research. Regards --Yourdailywiki (talk) 19:31, 9 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Do not be concerned that another editor removed some categories. Your emphasis is on notability, especially getting links to Team Strawberry from other articles. The term ergometer may turn out to be important. --DThomsen8 (talk) 22:35, 10 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

User Sandbox[edit]

Wikipedia:About the Sandbox explains the Wikipedia Sandbox and also user Sandboxes. Your user page has some problems with formatting. The place to work such details out would be a user sandbox, followed by cut-and-paste into the user page. User boxes are a good idea. You should work out any formatting details elsewhere, and then put the finished work on the user page. Best wishes! --DThomsen8 (talk) 10:48, 7 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I'll second this advice. In fact I have created a user sandbox for you at User:Yourdailywiki/Sandbox. Feel free to create your next article there without risk of it being deleted. When it's ready it can be be moved to the mainspace. – ukexpat (talk) 18:33, 7 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Oops you beat me to it - I added the {{User sandbox}} template to it for you. – ukexpat (talk) 18:34, 7 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Team Strawberry final sentence references[edit]

Here is a revised final sentence from the Team Strawberry article, followed by three URLs describing the S-710/720, and the Graber Power Tap. That final URL describes why cyclists would want to measure power output. To me, this kind of information, when carefully introduced to various cycling articles, is the key to making Team Strawberry notable. I would remove the issues template when this kind of information, with inline citations, is included on Wikipedia.

Per your suggestion introduced to one so far. Will find other possibles. See Human power. --Yourdailywiki (talk) 11:15, 15 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Introduced to another. See Cyclocomputer. --Yourdailywiki (talk) 19:27, 15 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Cyclist power measuring devices[edit]

The research on cyclist power measuring devices performed by Team Strawberry and Balboa Instruments started the trend that resulted in the more affordable Power Tap (1998, Tune Corp., purchased by Graber Products in late 2000) and Polar S-710 (2001).

Very complete description and photos of the S-710 and connections to the power measuring device.

Mentions S-720 output measuring device, works by measuring chain tension.

Describes Graber Product's Power Tap, including why cyclists would want to measure power output.--DThomsen8 (talk) 11:25, 14 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Excellent research. I see your point now, thank you! I will follow up and post back here when I have something. Cheers! --Yourdailywiki (talk) 19:56, 14 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Google does it! Do you have any photos of Team Strawberry, or the Balboa Instruments device? Be careful about copyright, though, and load images at Wikimedia Commons, not here. And for creating inline references, look at http://toolserver.org/~magnus/makeref.php --DThomsen8 (talk) 20:55, 14 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Images would really help complete the article. I have on my todo list to contact Balboa Instruments, Im told they had a photo spread of the team and the devices in their lobby a long time ago. It looks like they moved their offices though. Im in California so Im going to drop in on their offices next time I'm in that area and see what I can find out. I Googled the team members but could only trace to Mike Haluza and he has given me good information. If I can locate Steve Smith he would have all the rider data taken from the devices during RAAM, which would be very interesting to see. He would have photos and video and hopefuly wouldn't mind signing up here and contributing to the article. I think its worth the effort even if only to aquire some images. I have read wikipedia image requirements. --Yourdailywiki (talk) 11:22, 15 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Do the power output devices updates with appropriate citations and links from Team Strawberry first, and I would say you have overcome any objections based on notability. Will you be doing any other editing, after you are done with Team Strawberry and its associated devices? --DThomsen8 (talk) 13:48, 15 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Cool. On your suggestions, I think I got it all but if not let me know. I added two more links out to other articles (Cyclocomputer, Power meter) and a total of five links back to Team Strawberry. Also expanded other articles to include "Power Tap" and "Polar S-720" with citations. I think I have acted on all recommendations from all editors to this point. The only other major edits to Team Strawberry I plan on is the addition of photos, and the data taken from the Power Pacers, but that may take some time to aquire. I do want to create other articles and have a lot to contribute to other articles I've seen and bookmarked. Thanks for all the help friend. --Yourdailywiki (talk) 22:17, 15 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
You have done quite a job, and now the article on Team Strawberry has inline citations, plenty of links to other articles, and links back to that article where appropriate. I am removing the template at the beginning of the article.--DThomsen8 (talk) 00:18, 16 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Human equivalent deletion request[edit]

There is an article called Human equivalent which has some very tenuous connection with cycling and the measurement of human power, but I am doubtful about its notability or significance. Please go check it out, and if you agree with me that it should be deleted, go ahead and follow the template link to the AfD comment page and state your opinion in support of deletion. This is the first time I have tried to do a deletion request. I probably would not have tried it, except someone else called it to my attention, and as I say, it does have some vague connection with measuring human power output.

In the general case, where some editor wants an article about a long dead politician or author, I don't care. I do not support those attempting to publicize obscure rock bands, or living but inconsequential modern artists. --DThomsen8 (talk) 23:58, 15 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I intend to leave this AfD request alone, and wait out whatever will happen in the usual process here.--DThomsen8 (talk) 13:59, 17 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

User talk page conduct[edit]

Take a look at WP:UTP for a discussion of user talk page conduct. I have removed some content from my user talk page, but now I am learning how to archive it instead. According to the User Talk Page advice, archiving is preferable to outright deletion. Of course, using the history log, the older content can be seen by those who want to see it.

I make these remarks because I went to this talk page, intending to suggest that you add some of the references I mentioned concerning the final sentence in Team Strawberry to the article, but you have deleted those references from the current talk page. So, I suggest that you get those references back from the history log, and carefully add them to the Team Strawberry article if they are relevant. Also, you could follow my example, and learn how to archive older material on the talk page, rather than delete it. Archived material is easier for other editors to see and use, rather than history logs, which are clearly harder to use. --DThomsen8 (talk) 13:55, 17 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I will follow up on this coach ;) but I dont recall deleting anything. I'm probably just confused. --Yourdailywiki (talk) 22:00, 17 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I'm sorry if I'm just being stupid, but are you talking about your "final sentence statements/feferences" posted on THIS talk page up above??? --Yourdailywiki (talk) 22:28, 17 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe I was hasty about the above post. It seems the references are up above. Can you make use of them in the article?

Is the UMCA a notable cycling organization, worthy of its own article? --DThomsen8 (talk) 21:24, 19 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Sure. I can do that.--Yourdailywiki (talk) 20:11, 20 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I am still hoping for a UMCA article. Also, the RAAM article has a citation needed tag, which maybe you would know how to correct by providing an appropriate inline citation. --DThomsen8 (talk) 00:09, 4 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
