Yawgoog scout camp
[edit]Hi Zesty. I know you are enthusiastic about the Yawgoog scout camp. But I'm afraid your addition of it to pages of so many people is not an improvement, or in line with our policies. Coverage of a topic should only be mentioned if it is supported in a reliable source, and coverage of that item is WP:DUE. Famous people tend to have many things named after them, but only a select few qualify for mention on their article. Unfortunately, a scout camp does not generally rise to that level, especially when its for very famous people. Correspondingly, I have undone your edits in a number of articles. - Hi Eek,
- My apologies. I thought it would be appropriate for a number of the edits I made since recognition at the campsite level might be considered proportional to that individual's fame (ie Baden-Powell, Ida Lewis, Paul Siple). I figured it was a gamble when stepping up the inclusion to US Presidents since their namesakes number in the thousands. However, my line of thinking was that since I had done it for some, I may as well have done it for all of them.
- I believed it worthwhile to mention the campsites in the articles due to Yawgoog Scout Reservation's national import and international fame. With thousands of campers having visited since the open in 1916, knowledge of the Reservation is not exactly uncommon.
- I understand your reasoning for the changes.
- Additionally, I realize that the only source linked was the Wikipedia page for the Reservation in most cases. I have other sources available if that would change anything.
- Cheers,

- First, I'm not sure that Yawgoog is very well known. I've never heard of it, and it only gets about 250 views a month (compared to say Abraham Lincoln, who gets ~500,000 a month). Second, the issue here is WP:DUE coverage. A fact may be true, and yet it may not be worthy for inclusion in an article because it isn't DUE weight to mention that fact. It would be unduly promoting Yawgoog, and using up valuable article space. If you have additional sources, they'll need to meet a few criteria to actually be used to substantiate the naming. They would need to be independent of the scouts, reliable, and discuss both Yawgoog and the subject. CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n!⚓ 19:17, 23 March 2023 (UTC)
