Hi, it would be good if you could create a List of subdistricts of Syria by district and province. It's good that you're venturing into starting them. Please ask @Al Ameer son: for assistance.♦ Dr. Blofeld 21:26, 8 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Dr. Blofeld Thanks, I will create it later. --Zaher talk 09:54, 9 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Ideally the categories should be Category:Subdistricts of the Hama Governorate and Hama could be referring to the city. You might also add the exact links on the pages like Hama District.♦ Dr. Blofeld 10:15, 9 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Dr. Blofeld I use for the category short name and there is no conflict. I work step by step :). --Zaher talk 15:20, 9 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, but what happens when you want to create a category for articles in the city of Hama or its neighborhoods. Subdistricts of Hama then gets confusing. Please add Governorate on the end!♦ Dr. Blofeld 15:27, 9 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Please categorize villages in Category:Populated places in Hama District or any of the sub categories of Category:Populated places in Hama Governorate by district. I'm putting Category:Villages in Hama up for deletion. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 18:31, 10 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Template:Hama Governorate exists. Al ameer son was going through by district I believe.♦ Dr. Blofeld 18:41, 10 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

cod.humanitarianresponse.info[edit]

Hi, Zaher kadour. I just wanted to let you know that the census information on various Syrian villages that are hosted on the domain cod.humanitarianresponse.info appear to be access restricted. It is also possible that my computer is just refusing a connection to the website for whatever reason. Anyways thanks for your time and have a nice day.--Prisencolinensinainciusol (talk) 01:59, 10 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Prisencolinensinainciusol I checked the link at 21-6 and it was working, apparently has been moved to the new address, I will check the old link after a few days and if do not work I replace it to new link. Thank you. --Zaher talk 02:53, 10 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a search with the contents of Hurat Ammurin, and it appears to be very similar to another Wikipedia page: Ammurin. It is possible that you have accidentally duplicated contents, or made an error while creating the page— you might want to look at the pages and see if that is the case. If you are intentionally trying to rename an article, please see Help:Moving a page for instructions on how to do this without copying and pasting. If you are trying to move or copy content from one article to a different one, please see Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia and be sure you have acknowledged the duplication of material in an edit summary to preserve attribution history.

It is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article. CorenSearchBot (talk) 19:32, 15 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Dthomsen8 I responded there, thank you for your efforts. --Zaher talk 04:13, 2 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I made a {{WikiProject Syria|class=redirect|importance=NA}} out of that incorrectly spelled town page. Take a look.--08:17, 9 August 2014 (UTC)

Bulky Syria governorate navigation templates[edit]

Hi Zaher. I noticed from the page histories that you have been filling up the various Syrian governorate templates with all of the governorate's localities. This has made the templates very bulky and almost defeats its purpose which is to easily navigate through the articles on Syrian towns and villages. Back when Yazan and I were designing these templates we devised unofficial guidelines that basically limited the templates to include district (mantiqa) and subdistrict (nahiya) centers and sizable villages (populations of ~2,000 or more). Exceptions were given for smaller villages if they were historically significant. These guidelines were unilateral, unofficial and do not translate into Wikipedia rules. However, the purpose of the guidelines was to ensure a neat, easily navigable template that directed readers to the major/semi-major localities of Syria. Currently, the templates are filled with villages with populations in the low 100s and even farms that were included in the 2004 census. Also, there doesn't seem to be any alphabetical organization. It's just a big mess of blue links.

I'm proposing two solutions:

1). We revert to the old guidelines, which I think is the best solution.
2.) We replace the governorate templates with district templates. So instead of the Hama Governorate => Hama District, Al-Suqaylabiyah District, Masyaf District, etc. it would be Al-Suqaylabiyah District => Al-Suqaylabiyah Subdistrict, Qalaat al-Mudiq Subdistrict, etc. See rough example here.

Let me know what you think of my proposals or if you have any alternative solutions. The current state of these templates is unfeasible. I'm also copying this post to the WikiProject Syria Talk Page so other editors could chime in. --Al Ameer (talk) 00:07, 13 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Al Ameer Hi, The main target of adding these links is to facilitate access to these villages from well-known and popular articles and the another reason that name of these villages is difficult for users to find them because of non-English titles and problems in pronounce and write the same titles in their articles.
I still think that a good template as is. In general, you're right, But I don't know what is the best way to easily link and find this articles. --Zaher talk 19:27, 13 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your response. I am looking at examples for other countries with well-developed "wiki-infrastructure" (if that's what it's called) and seeing which formats could best be applied for Syria's governorates. I think ultimately some of the really tiny places might be left out, but there could be a solution for them too.
As for the names, a standard English spelling of Arabic words should be used for every article. In general, for Levantine localities we use "Umm" instead of Om or Um, "Kafr" instead of Kfar, Kafar, Kafer, etc., "Al-Blank" instead of "Elblank", "Qalaat" instead of Qal'at, Kal'at, "Tell" instead of Tel, Tal, or Tall, "Jubb" instead of Jeb or Job, and so on. The other spellings could be mentioned as alternative spellings in the article itself and as redirects. This should hopefully stem confusion for editors and readers alike. It would be nice if we could have a table that lists all of this on the Levantine WikiProject pages. --Al Ameer (talk) 16:29, 14 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I have reorganized the template based off of subdistricts (nawahi) and am currently in the process of renaming many of the articles to conform with standardized Arabic transliterations, cleaning them up and adding coordinates. The template is still bulky, but much better organized. I still support cutting out places with tiny populations, but maybe instead of ~2,000 people, it could be something like less than ~500. Anyway, until a different solution could be agreed on, this is probably the best way for now. See the revised template HERE. --Al Ameer (talk) 17:44, 17 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Coordinates in infoboxes[edit]

When you created Zayn al-Abidin (mountain), in the infobox, you used a deprecated format for the coordinates which is incompatible with location maps. This caused an error message to display in place of the map. In the future, can you use the new format for coordinates in infoboxes? Thanks, Jackmcbarn (talk) 02:08, 29 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
