Apparently the page didn't save originally, with the source of the photo. If you had looked down to my edit summary, it states that the image was from a Trimspa advertisement, a point I've now elaborated on in the image description. I haven't complain because I haven't seen it. As soon as I reach an unsorced image, I tag it.

Abu, here's the timeline of what happened.

I went to the Anna Nicole Smith article, and discovered it used an image that didn't qualify for fair use, as it was a stock photo. I found the advertisement image of Anna, and uploaded it as fair use. Minutes later, I searched Flickr for original images of Smith. I found the red carpet image. I contacted the creator of the image, and asked his permission to relicense it as CC-BY. I log off the computer. You come to my talk page, warn me that I need fair use rationale. Another admin deletes the image entirely.

I log on to the computer again, find out that the rationale I typed in didn't save properly, and see the image is deleted. I restore the image, and quickly re-write fair use rationale for the image. I then re-add the image to the article.

I then go to Flickr, find out that the photographer has agreed to release his image under a free license. I upload the image to Wikimedia Commons, and then use that image of Wikipedia.

Why wouldn't I change the file name? When I saved the Flickr image to my system, it's name was a series of random letters and numbers. I changed it so that the name would be unique and descriptive. I still link to the original image, to credit the source. -- Zanimum 14:44, 12 February 2007 (UTC)

Kudos to you for contacting the photographer asking him to release the image under a free licensing. When I asked about changing the name, that was because you had uploaded the same image as Image:Anna Nicole Smith MTV Music Awards 2005 crop.jpg (in commons, now deleted) when the better named Image:Anna Nicole Smith.jpg was already available. But this is no big deal now.

But the point is, why did you rush up to upload an unfree image and even state in the rationale that "No free equivalent could be found" if you were still in the works of acquiring a free image? Can't an article stay some days without an image? and Does "No free equivalent could be found" means "So far, I haven't found one, although I have a good chance to do"?

Well, it was a case that if I had just deleted the existing image, and didn't find a replacement, then dozens of other people may have uploaded their own random images, claiming fair use. Awhile back you deleted a section on the Dr. Seuss, concerning the Seuss Celebration DVD. Your reason for doing so was you considered the info unimportant. Aren't mentions of VHS/DVD releases usually considered within the rules? Just because you personally consider info unimportant doesn't make deleting it ok. While this DVD is important, in that it's the complete first release of this collection, it's not terribly important in the overall story of his life. Cosplay images licenses

Zanimum, could you take a look at images Image:Ska naru lounge.jpg and Image:Ska naru leotard shiny.jpg. You say we have permission to use them from "the webmaster", but you tagged these images with a free creative commons license. Are you sure these "webmasters" really released these images under the terms of said license or did they just give permission for the image to be used on Wikipedia?

If they really released under a free license, could you edit the image's description pages to include verifiable information on that, like an otrs number or a website where they author state they're releasing those images?

Also, image Image:Digimon_mimi_kigurumi.jpg was posted to commons with the only source info being a link back to Wikipedia. Can you fix that?

Zanimum, you state on your user page that your name in greek means "νικοτίνη περισσότερο". As I am of greek ethnicity, I have to tell you that the proper grammar is "περισσότερη νικοτίνη". Inupiaq wiki

Hi, I've been working with the Inupiaq wiki for the past 2 days as an anonymous user. I noticed the featured article, Iqsrabutilik (Canadian Geese), doesn't seem to have Inupiaq writing, although I've only relyed on translation. I can tell written language styles from others, and it does not seem like Inupiaq. I wouldn't know how to find out what it is. Don't worry, I'm not making it a big concern. Rollback on Sesame Street Live

Hi! You rolled me back on Sesame Street Live. I thought I was reverting the same fairly meaningless edits that this user inserts from time to time. I'm going to go back and make the edits without using rollback. I don't really see how one random date and location from a multi-year tour of a show is meaningful in this article. The information is incorrect. The tours start off in the late summer/early fall, and I've never known one to start at the Fox in Detroit. Many of them are built and rehearsed (sometimes with a dress rehearsal for invited public), and on the first year of its rotation, usually open in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, I think. I don't usually contact editors about their votes, but I took offense at your suggestion that my nomination of this article for deletion had some anti-Canadian bias. I am Canadian. And if there was a comparably ridiculous article relating to the Emmy Awards, I would nominate it for deletion. (In fact, I recently nominated several Golden Globe categories for deletion.) Did you even look at the article in question? If you re-visit the discussion page, you'll see that another user has added a comment to clarify your mistaken impression of why the article was nominated for deletion. With all due respect, perhaps next time you vote on something, you can do your homework and avoid insinuating ill-intentions on the part of the nominee. Aha. It occurred to me after I left the above message that I should check the article history. Lo and behold, you are its author. I apologize if you took my Afd as a personal affront on your contribution. However, the article does not fit into the existing structure for the Gemini Awards in terms of categories and articles. Moreover, it is merely a list of nominees for one particular award. Lists of nominees are not generally considered notable -- even for Emmy Awards -- and this particular list is for a popularity contest vote! It doesn't even include the winner. Requests for article updates on the help desk

Hi. I thought you might want to know that some requests for updates in articles about organizations are now coming from IP addresses, and while some of them include email and phone numbers, it's been custom to delete such info, and I'm not sure how we should verify what's given to us, especially in cases where the subjects in question do not show up in web searches. Sorry, didn't see this until today. IP addresses are okay, I think. Deleting phone numbers and emails is fine. By "the subjects", you mean you can't find references to the verify the people trying to correct the information are indeed with the company?

Yes, most are courteous in their requests. What I meant by "subject" is both the identity of the poster and the information they are requesting to be placed into articles. It's even more troublesome if neither their claim nor the article's is sourced.

Hamilton Southeastern Schools

Am I doing something wrong in adding school pages under Hamilton Southeastern Schools? My students wrote articles for a project and I wanted to publish them.

IC University

I have added a "{{prod}}" template to the article IC University, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but I don't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and I've explained why in the deletion notice (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may contest the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Thanks for the constructive and sensible suggestion. While RobotG is "very experienced" at deleting categories, it is still learning how best to turn those deleted categories into lists, so all suggestions are welcome! I will investigate the possibility of making it capable of creating a subsection in a relevant article; sometimes it will probably be more appropriate to create the list! I don't think "Crew of _____" is very good wording. You then end up with things like "Crew of Star Trek," which means something very different. CovenantD 18:37, 7 March 2007 (UTC)

Semantics - many readers wouldn't make the distinction. Say "crew of Star Trek" and Kirk, McCoy and Spock come to mind. The point is, "crew" is too vague a term in this context. Just wondering

I've changed the block to three months. While the vandalism itself is not at the level that I'd normally give more than a warning, it caused an entire town in my province to freak out. I'm doing this in my attempt to woo the media and mayor of the town to encourage citizens to collaborate on the Sioux Lookout, Ontario article, and build it up as a community. -- Zanimum 13:28, 15 March 2007 (UTC)

Blocks are not punitive, they're preventative. Your description sounds as if you've performed a block to 'punish' the IP user. Additionally, as it's an anonymous IP, it's very, very unlikely that the person who made the edit is still assigned to that address, so you're probably causing collateral damage. Finally, a long block because of the reaction is improper. The vandalism was fairly standard stuff, nothing illegal or particularly bad as far as some of the stuff we've seen in the past. Can I apply to become an admin on the Inupiaq Wikipedia?

On the Inupiaq Wiki, I've made many of the last contributions, mostly anonymous, but some with my account, as you can see on the recent edits. When I first visited there accidentally, there were only 10 articles. With my help both anonymous and with my account, that number has gone up to 18. I've improved the quality of a few, and have made some articles. While on the Akutuq page, I noticed that you commented saying that anybody that makes productive edits is welcome. Sesame Street Birthdays

I must commend you on your work on the Sesame St. and related articles. I feel it has had a huge impact on society and is worth documenting. Just wondering however, if you could share your sources for the original Sesame Street character birthdays article. Its a minor point, but I noticed Oscars birthday was changed without explanation. Apologies for the delay, I've been scattered about the last little bit. My sources for these birthdays are Sesame Street Unpaved, and when this book didn't provide answers, Sesame Street Magazine. However the book, I've since learned, has it's own share of mistakes, despite being an officially approved publication.

These birthdays were first decided on as a way of filling up the Sesame Street Magazine calendars, to fill in space between MLK Day, Groundhog Day, and Flag Day. While most b-days stayed static, some jumped around a bit. So it's really iffy, the whole thing. -- Zanimum 14:45, 14 April 2007 (UTC)

Hi, I've been contributing to the Iñupiak Wikipedia greatly both anonymously and under the name EnglishItalianoNihongoRusski.

Using the Eskimo writing key on the Iñupiak dictionary, I have come up with the letters that can made into the name "Wikipedia" and "The free encyclopedia. The sounds:

• Ui = ui like quick
• qi = q sounds like k but farther in throat, and when i is next to q, it makes a sound like is in English.
• pi = p sounds like English p, "i" alone makes sound like i in police.
• ti = same as pi
• a = when alone, makes ä sound

Disability Alert is a real organization founded in 2006 to do public advocacy on behalf of 19,000 Islanders with disabilities. I personally have been working in disability organizations since 2000. We do personal advocacy like prepresenting the disabled in tribunals that don't require a lawyer. Mainly we do public education of the need for better disability supports and lobbying government to change their policies.

Last year the government cut $1 million in disability supports funding. We lobbied to get it returned: they added $900K. We also got scooters added to the list, the screening tool improved and the review process under review. Sdpate 20:00, 13 April 2007 (UTC)

I appreciate learning what I need to know to make a proper entry and the time you take. I am a newbie. However, I feel I am not being treated with respect. You asked me to document my single concise paragraph. In order to do that it became 3 paragraphs with 21 citations. It took me 6 hours to get that material together. Then you appear to berate me for that - too much weight. I prefer the short paragraph although the separate article has its value.

There are some subjective comments about our group and me.

To add insult to injury, I am the only one who edits this page that appears to be following rules. The rest of the article is pure narrative with only minor citations that are not independant. People delete material, even your edits.

Pat Binns page

The page on PEI Premier Pat Binns contains a link to PEI Disability Alert. Please note, the PEI Disability Alert is a one man operation. It was created by Stephen Pate and he is the sole participant of the group today. It is not a registered non-profit organization as he claims in the article he has written about himself. As I understood, writing Wiki entries on yourself was forbidden. The page on disability alert appears to be more of a personal blog than anything else and should be deleted. As well, the link to said page from the biography of Pat Binns considerably exagerates the impact Pate has had on PEI. This link is not warranted.

There is considerable information on Pat Binns that is lacking. He lowered UPEI tuition by 10%, he lowered taxes by $34 million, he negotiated a new equalization "base formula" with Prime Minister Stephen Harper (which delivered $40 million to PEI's health and social services departments). The Premier is also building a new hospital in Western PEI and is creditted with saving the education system on PEI. (Binns turned the 1996 election around with a promise to build a new school in Summerside PEI to replace one with mold. This was done. Binns also insisted on maintaining rural schools despite the cost and poor fiscal management. Rural development is a centerpeiece of the Binns legacy).

None of these points, which are synonomous with the Pat Binns government, are listed. Yet some guys one man clown show is front and center. If the article is not changed to reflect the truth, it should be considered libellous slander and immediately removed. Please note that the article in its current form is not only inaccurate, it is also dominated by one mans crusade against the Progressive Conservative government of PEI. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 74.210.4.228 (talk) 15:32, 24 April 2007 (UTC).

There is no link to Disability Alert in Premier Binns' article. There's a link to Disability rights in Prince Edward Island, but that's a legitimate topic altogether separate from his blog. I assume that when the province was founded in 1873, there was at least one person with some form of a disability, and so from then on to 2006 or whenever, the topic is unrelated to Mr. Pate's unorthodox measures.

I've removed the see also link, but the words "to Islanders with disabilities" now point to this article.

Yes, I do realise that it's all a one-man operation. I've repeatedly questioned him on the topic, with no response otherwise.

Regarding tuition, taxes, equalisation, etc., yes, I agree the article is sorely lacking without this content, which clearly has been of importance to the province over his terms in office. I invite you to add it to the article, and link to news coverage of these advances, so people can read about them in further depth.

I'm just noticing that you were the editor who removed valid references in the article, pointing to the Canadian Encyclopedia and the PC bios of Premier Binns. I'll point you to WP:CITE to show just how picky we are that everything is referenced. This page contains is a self-justification for the campaign by Zanimum against Disability Alert and its founder Stephen Pate. Zanimum has some link with the PC Party of PEI, Premier’s Office and or PC Youth so his efforts might be partisan political, which would also explain his desire to add glowing phrases to Pat Binns, none of them substantiated.

Zanimum is a classic case of non NPOV. I have filed an official complaint. If nothing comes of it, it will be a testament to how the administrator editors can high jack Wikipedia for their own purposes.

A few sample misstatements from above. If you read all the comments on all the pages you will discover that Zanimum knows the truth: he merely seeks to distort it here and other places for partisan purposes and to exonerate himself among his peers.

a. “PEI Disability Alert is a one man operation” – not true, we are referred to in numerous newspaper and TV articles as a “group” – there is a picture in the Guardian and video on CBC of the protest in April. Shows people. What is his purpose in trying to minimize legitimate activist activity? Zanimum knows for sure cause he’s on PEI, well his Tory spies are here.

b. “he is the sole participant of the group today” – same lie, some of the articles and blogs even mention people’s names but not for Zanimum

c. “registered non-profit organization as he claims in the article he has written about himself” called a straw man, Zanimum sets it up and then knocks it down. No claim has ever been made of “registered non-profit” status and it is in our policies not to register, which means with CRA. The government doesn't register pure advocacy groups in Canada for tax purposes.

d. “The page on disability alert appears to be more of a personal blog than anything else and should be deleted.” – misleading statement since the article was called Disability Rights on PEI. It spanned from the 70’s until now with 50+ NPOV government or media type references. Misleading on the deletion since I removed all the material myself. It is my copyright and I have no intention of having my writing reviewed by a partisan follower of Pat Binns. Zanimum is trying to re-write history: “yeah I was the guy who asked for the page to get deleted.” Sounds like a broom covering tracks as we say.

e. “some guys one man clown show’ – Pejorative statements which are against Wiki policy. I’m not sure how social activism becomes a clown show, surely not one man since I always have at least one person with me to protect me from Tory goons like the one who whacked me on Saturday –see the blog. Perhaps, Zanimum is a closet hater of people in wheelchairs so he sees me as a freak, someone who took the best parking lot.

f. “If the article is not changed to reflect the truth, it should be considered libellous slander and immediately removed.” Another straw man since he knows I have removed the article. Only a partisan or person who hates the disabled would think an article on Disability Rights on PEI spanning 40 years is libelous. The laws on libel allow fair comment on public figures. The article had 50+ references not one of them false. Sweep, sweep.

g. “it is also dominated by one mans crusade against the Progressive Conservative government of PEI.” OK so another repetition of the one-man lie, then the attempt to mis-cast me. Our work is to reform the Disability Support Program not the PC government.

We do not publish our membership list or show it even to legitimate media. Unlike the false claim from Zanimum no CBC reporter has ever asked the question. Why do we not publish? There is no law says we have to. Members of organizations don’t usually divulge that type of information. I’m a Rotarian: our membership list is kept private, although a little bit of sleuthing will provide some names. As well, we are a social activist group. In the partisan politics of PEI, members and their families can be targeted for government retribution. PEI is like a third-world banana republic. When Binns came in he fired 850 people who they thought might be Liberal. Do you think many people want to be “outed” as official members of Disability Alert. Now that I know Zanimum is a spy for the Tories, I’m glad I stuck to my guns.

That's fantastic, but sadly there's Wikipedia doesn't give special status to fair use images with permission, over plain fair use images. The image is in Wikipedia in pop culture.

It would be much better to illustrate Non Sequitur with a publicity image. Would you be able to ask him if he has any generic illustrations, perhaps created for the sell-sheet his syndicate sends out to try and get papers to pick the strip up? If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. Mickey Mouse's name in other languages

Hello. I have placed an unreferenced tag on the Mickey Mouse's name in other languages article. My reason for this is that I have found some translations of Mickey's name to be incorrect. An example of this is the Spanish version. At least in Puerto Rico, Mickey's name is still Mickey Mouse. Still, if you were to translate the name to Spanish, it would be "Mickey el Ratón", not "Ratón Mickey". Please provide some references for the translations before removing the tag. Thank you. I wasn't contacted by him until after I made the edit, on my talk page as you can see. I have to concur with Golbez, there was no reason for the original edit adding that text back into the article. If it was done "by committee", that would denote some level of consensus and furthermore the text just isn't terribly relevant. I agree the content about this fight, whether addressing a real fight or a persistent rumour about one, should only be very minimal in the article. It was one night of his life, not a major element to his personal existence. However, this incident is unfortunately what he received the most press for from major publications, before Transformers.

What committee had removed the content? Unless Arbcom was involved, the only group attention his article received was through the Administrator's noticeboard. For all I know, the person who readded the content was full of themselves, and I don't support them at all. However is it not factual? Is it not citable? -- Zanimum 16:53, 13 July 2007 (UTC)

Campaign workers writing in wikipedia, probably writing biased stuff

There are almost certainly campaign workers on Wikipedia. I just saw in the newspaper about Edwards' wife asking a campaign worker to address something she saw written up in the internet on a blog. If they are fighting blogs, they are almost certainly fighting on wikipedia. I wouldn't be surprised if all campaigns are doing this, not just the Edwards. Nick, check that out.

Asking candidates questions as part of wikinews could be a bad idea. It is already too easy for a few campaign workers or plain volunteers to alter the articles to make their candidate look good. Drawing their attention to wikipedia is asking for trouble.

Already, there is a hint that campaign workers or volunteers are at work. Everything that I added was removed. I did not say that candidate A was doing it but not B. The excuse used was "trolling". Far from trolling, it's a sign that at least one candidate is guilty and didn't want to delete the comment from just their candidates article so they deleted it in all candidates.

The newspaper article that I read was about the Edwards campaign. If I write about that, it would be potentially biased because all of them are doing it, not just Edwards. So I thought just a general warning and comment on several article's talk page would be better. It seems that this guy that deleted the comment is offended by the truth.

They all have biased writing. I don't have time to correct all of the articles but I don't want to pick on just one candidate. Candidates of both parties have biased articles.

You could also take the opposite approach. Ask campaigns to review their article and the articles of their opponents and comment.

Sadly, there's nothing we can do but act vigilantly and root out that bias. The bias in the articles very well could have arisen from edits by people other than those directly involved with the campaigns.

I personally think that getting them involved in Wikinews will encourage them to keep their idle hands at bay. If they feel like they've been heard on Wikipedia (in actuality the sister project Wikinews), then they might decide to scale back, if not completely ignore such tactics.

As for having the campaigns review their opponents' articles, that's interesting, albeit it's likely to start more trouble than its worth, if any of the campaign start a word of words. It's also unlikely that they'd want to try and pick apart 5, 7, 9 other articles, as that take much more time and resources than having the candidate themselves answer a few questions. -- Zanimum 20:30, 21 July 2007 (UTC)

Where was this, you ask? I posted the same message as here (the bold print one) in Talk:John Edwards and a few others. All deleted. The campaign volunteers don't want their scam uncovered.

Don't forget, campaigns have tens of millions of dollars. And hundreds of volunteers and many paid staff. To have just a few of them look over wikipedia is easy. We know that at least one campaign reviews even the blogs and it's the wife of the candidate....then she gives orders. I'm not making this up, it was on the front page of the newspaper (the article was about the candidate, not the internet stuff, but the internet stuff was in the article).

Well, 99%% of messages should not be posted on multiple talk pages. My call for questions is an exception to the rule, really. Secondly, your message was directed towards me, asking me to take action. Bobblehead likely saw that I said "Don't ask them here, I'll never see them" in reference to questions, a statement meaning I wouldn't be visiting the talk pages of the articles, and thus your message would never get through to me via a talk page. -- Zanimum 14:07, 23 July 2007 (UTC)

Hi Wily, the bid page is here. Basically, we need people to get ideas of who might sponsor, who might speak at the convention (just brainstorm ideas, don't contact yet), and also just general improvement of what we have already. Take a look at other bids (Atlanta and London being the most developed) and see what they're suggesting that sounds cool, or how they're presenting information to make it more appetizing. Wikimania 2009

From Wikipedia Signpost, I saw that Toronto pulled out its bid from 2008 and concentrate on the 2009 bid. I would like to offer my help and lend you a hand for the 2009 bid. I live in Richmond Hill and studies at University of Toronto Scarborough. Since I'm a UofT student, I can assist in booking venues at UofT.
