Magus in Radical Dreamers[edit]

Hi, Zeality. Do you have a link to that interview you mentioned in your edit summary at Radical Dreamers? It's not that I doubt you, but I'd like to add it to the article as a reference. Thanks! —BrianSmithson 04:17, 1 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

SPCs[edit]

I noticed you had added (or restored) a link to Chrono Trigger SPCs at Chrono Trigger Original Sound Version. I had to remove the links because these SPCs are illegal (they still infringe on copyright). Sorry. - furrykef (Talk at me) 02:55, 6 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Chrono Trigger Wiki[edit]

It's great to see that the creator of the Chrono Compendium is active in some other communities as well.

I'd like to get your feedback on a Wiki Guide I've been working on for Chrono Trigger: http://strategywiki.net/wiki/Chrono_Trigger (formerly featured at Wikibooks, but it has since been transwiki'd)

The two big things I've tried to do is break the walkthrough down by the name of the save game file, since there's a one to one mapping between the title of the save game file and the ending in all but two cases, and to precisely work out how the trial sequence works. (it's slightly glitchy thanks to how the interaction with the little girl works, but it's still do-able) http://strategywiki.net/wiki/Chrono_Trigger/Walkthrough/Chapter_4

I'd looked into the Chrono Compendium previously but I didn't think it would be the best place to set up a guide since the content was buried several links deep in some cases and the information on specific parts tended to have their own seperate pages rather than easy to get-at summaries of the information.

If you could provide any feedback on the completeness and accuracy of the content it would be much appreciated, or perhaps even consider it a "sister project" to your own, that would be great. I think wikis are the way to go in building complete and easily correctable game guides, and I'd really appreciate your help.--BigCow 20:31, 20 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Response to your comment[edit]

I realize this, but thanks for clarification :) The thing is, though, in this context it makes better sense to use the singular since the party is one coherent unit and therefore acts as one entity. But as you said, it doesn't really matter. Peaceman 02:42, 27 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

CVG Peer Review[edit]

Please don't "close" peer reviews prematurely, unless you're moving directly into regular peer review; someone better and brighter than I may come along and say better and brighter things, and those of us who have already commented like to make further comments as progress is made. CT[edit]

I know what you mean. I'm the same way. Anyway, Crazyswordsman and I have both actually left messages on his page asking for him to get back to us on the matter. He left one three days ago and I left one yesterday. Nothing so far. If somebody never returns to comment after their problems have been addressed, Raul usually dismisses them, I think. Ryu Kaze 14:39, 25 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Alright. This has been your first FAC, right? Try not to get yourself spread too thin unless you know you can handle it. It can be kind of taxing on the mind when you've got yourself worrying over one FAC while trying to address issues on another (or a Peer Review). Even for Deckiller and I, and we've been at this a while. Though it mostly depends on what kind of comments you're getting. Anyway, just trying to give some helpful advice so you don't feel like running away from the place. XD Ryu Kaze 14:48, 25 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
(Copy-pasted message to Deckiller, Crazyswordsman and Zeality) I'm sure you guys would have noticed eventually, but I'm rather impatient, so I thought I'd point it out to you guys. Bill Pringle and I have been having a dispute concerning the Story section of Chrono Trigger, and we decided to settle the matter based on input from others. That being the case, please stop by and let us know your thoughts on this issue. Thanks. Ryu Kaze 23:19, 26 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the thank you[edit]

Thanks for thanking me. I also noticed that you had Radical Dreamers on your user page, which was one of the ones that I qualified, cheers —Minun Spiderman 11:22, 29 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Fair-use[edit]

I think Chrono Trigger will make it soon, so don't worry too much. To answer your question, though, there's not really an actual set limit on how many images can be used. Generally, the idea is "no more than is necessary, and not beyond the point that they're actually relevant to illustrating the material under discussion", which is obviously subjective and not very helpful. Some people would say five images is as far as you should go, while others say ten and some say fifteen. A common compromise that I've seen is ten to thirteen.

It's usually taken on a case-by-case basis. Really, a good rule of thumb is one image of box art, two for gameplay, two or three for the plot, and an additional one or two for miscellaneous other things that are deemed relevant. Inevitably, though, we find that we have to go beyond that in order to illustrate things in a clear manner so that the reader will have some kind of understanding of what's being discussed. Like I say, it's mostly case-by-case. Ryu Kaze 15:15, 1 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

RE: Chrono Cross[edit]

I'll see what I can do with the CC article. Of course I'd like to see that featured alongside CT. Sir Crazyswordsman 20:44, 1 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

An article I think that could be made GA[edit]

My friends made Cloud Strife, Squall Leonhart, Tidus, Yuna, Sephiroth, and Jenova good articles. Frankly I think that's not showcasing Square's best characters. I already have plans for Terra Branford, but what I need your help specifically in is with Magus (Chrono Trigger), which I think definitely has the potential to be good. It's already well on the way there. Sir Crazyswordsman 01:42, 8 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Chrono Trigger is FA![edit]

CT just hit FA! Great work getting it to FAC and continuing to improve its quality. We earned this one, eh? Ryu Kaze 14:12, 13 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

That it is. There's more to come as well, though I'm going to be bowing out of the intensiveness of the campaign pretty soon. I hope you guys continue to keep things running, but I'm sure a lot of us will be busier in the coming months. Ryu Kaze 19:20, 13 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Chrono Cross and fair-use[edit]

Hey, man. Sorry I haven't helped out with that page. I wanted to, but I started getting burned out while SotC was in FAC, and then I decided I was going to do one more article before I get back to work this month. After Deckiller suggested to me that he do FFIX and I do FFVII, I began to think that if I did one last push, it should be the biggest one possible. No offense meant to Chrono Cross, of course. I like it more than FFVII to be honest, but I can't deny that Final Fantasy VII is one of the most — if not the most — groundbreaking titles in the history of video games. On top of that, it would really have more trouble getting to FA than any of these others. I couldn't resist the opportunity to attempt making gold out of such a page as my going out with a bang departure. :(

Anyway, to get to your question, these are the suggestions I have:

  • Reduce the size of every image except for the battle image. Specifically, for the boxart, try to make that image no bigger than the cover actually is (smaller is, of course, preferable in the realm of fair-use). While it will be annoying to reduce the size of such fantastic images, as long as they aren't smaller than the box you put them on the article page, there shouldn't be any aesthetic issues stem from it (and you can always keep the big ones saved to your computer for personal use)
  • It would probably be best to lose the Millenium and regular Japanese packaging altogether. Typically, more than one example of boxart is deemed gratuitous since you only need one to identify the subject of the article (the most recognizable version)
  • The OST image will probably have to go. Typically, an OST cover outside its article namespace (in this case "Chrono Cross Oringal Soundtrack") has to provide something very easily defended. And, really, I can't say that these guys ever make covers that provide much of a defense (especially look at the Final Fantasy X piano album's cover; I don't know what the hell that's about)
  • Not image related, but the line about the fates of the cast being ambiguous is worded kind of badly for that sentence. Said like that, someone might think that it meant they could have died. At the very least, we know that Serge and Kid will get married one day (you've got that interview with Kato on the Compendium, I think), so I'd just reword it to be a little more specific. I know it's hard to given the context (we don't know which version of the various characters became the dominant basis after the merge, and it's to be assumed that all of them but Serge and Kid lost their memories), but something that doesn't necessarily sound like it could mean they died would be best there.

You're good on the rationale for using the images, though. Good luck to you. Ryu Kaze 23:04, 15 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The thumbnail sizes look okay to me. By the way, do you already know about that "Upload a new version of this file" feature on the image pages? I've been here since the beginning of the year and only just noticed that feature a couple of days ago. XD I felt rather stupid. It sure made the process of reuploading shrunken images go faster. Ryu Kaze 01:03, 16 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
You're welcome. You just have to make sure that if you're shrinking a PNG/JPG you upload the new one in the same format.
And, yeah, the FAC for VII is going surprisingly well. Angr's not come back to respond about the image changes yet, though. Ryu Kaze 01:08, 16 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Style Question[edit]

I noticed on Chrono Cross that you used the small "JPN" and "NA" links rather than the flagicons. Just wondering why, since I saw that Ryu did the same thing to FF8's page just yesterday as well. I've been adding flags/release dates to games yesterday/today, and I just was wondering if the consensus was changing to use those instead of icons. Thanks! --PresN 16:16, 16 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure if it's consensus based, but after TheEmulatorGuy made that change on Final Fantasy VII, I noticed that games with several releases had cluttered looking info boxes with all the flags. I also remembered that about a month ago, somebody was trying to add a footnote to FFVIII's infobox to indicate exactly which European countries had gotten the game because they said the European flag was misleading. With that in mind, I realized that the use of a link to PAL region was a lot more to the point and should prevent any possible confusion, so I went ahead and made the changes. This style will also allow for more flexibility when different PAL areas got different release dates. For instance, European PAL areas got FFVIII on October 27, 1999, while the PAL areas in Australasia got it two days later. That being the case, I was able to just toss the AUS link up and then place the appropriate release date beside it.
Like I say, I'm not sure if it's something consensus is moving toward, but I find it to be a lot better because it's more accurate, prevents clutter, and allows for more flexibility. Hope that clears things up. Ryu Kaze 16:33, 16 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

FFVII[edit]

Actually, that is a very good point. Considering what a revolutionary game it is — not just for the genre, but for gaming as a whole — it does deserve this kind of attention. Ryu Kaze 13:06, 17 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

License tagging for Image:Fkp3cd.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Fkp3cd.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 22:00, 25 August 2006 (UTC)

Frank Klepacki FAC[edit]

Hey. I thought I might give you some names of some people you could ask for help with the copyediting. Obviously Deckiller is at the top of my list, and User:Tony1 is somebody you would want to look into, but User:Steel359, User:ChrisTheDude, User:Spangineer and User:Seb Patrick are some other names that come to mind. While I don't think all of them necessarily have an interest in this kind of thing, that's actually good, because it will give you a wide pool of viewpoints to bring to the analysis. For a video game perspective, Deckiller and Steel are specifically who you want. So while they're for expertise as well as skill, the others are for variety and additional skill. Good luck to you, Zeal. Ryu Kaze 02:55, 26 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hey. I'm not sure why the FAC failed. The article should have passed, no question. Anyway, you're supposed to archive a nomination before relisting it. Would you like me to handle archiving and relisting it for you? Ryu Kaze 20:17, 30 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

RE: My talk page[edit]

Just out of interest, how come that article hasn't got an infobox? I dunno why Ryu Kaze recommended me, to be honest, but I could run through the prose and tidy it up as best I can. Not right now though, too tired. -- Steel 17:15, 26 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Nintendo Power archives[edit]

You mention that you don't have Issues 1-77 of Nintendo Power. In that case, would it not be more productive to start archiving the issues from Issue 78 onwards, then when that's complete to go back to the early ones? - Hahnchen 01:37, 3 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Good idea. I'll start with 122, since info for issues prior is on that website. --Zeality 21:03, 3 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Some updates:[edit]

  • Magus has been moving up the queue fast over the last few hours. We're now at number 14 in line.
  • I finished reworking the Final Fantasy IV story. Now, we just need to add references and polish it. I've added a few, and will add a few more when the time comes, but I could use your help in both.
  • Someone wanted to merge/redirect the CT character articles. While I'm fine with this for all NPCs except Schala and Ozzie, Flea, and Slash, doing this for the PCs is not acceptable, as I hope that we can get most of them GA'd, and Frog's and Lucca's in particular. (and Schala's, but she's an NPC)

Re:CVG advice[edit]

Hey, Zeality. I wasn't aware my advice had made an impression, but if you think it's good stuff, I might make a page like that. Here's where I had put it up before. I'll have to tweak the wording some, but I think it can be easily adjusted. So, you really think it's worth putting up? Ryu Kaze 01:38, 10 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Magus failed GA[edit]

Isn't there an interview with Kato or Toriyama we can cite to get info on character design? Sir Crazyswordsman 01:22, 11 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I know Toriyama won't talk, but Kato has shown a lot of willingness to talk to the public. And frankly, I consider KATO to have designed Magus, as Toriyama just designed his exteroir. Kato made everything else about him. Do we have any Kato stuff? Sir Crazyswordsman 05:19, 11 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Final Fantasy IV bugs[edit]

Zeality,

I noticed that you modfied the FFIV article to remove the statement regarding the bugs being fixed in the European version of FFIV Advance. Do you have proof that the bugs weren't removed from the game, or was the passage removed for lack of proper citation? I have no intentions to revert your change, but I would very much like to know for my own purposes. Thank you.

Re:FFIV[edit]

Hey. I must be overlooking that Geocities reference. I can't find it in the list and I've gone over it four times. O_o Link me to it, please. By the way, I definitely don't think it would pass FA with a citation needed tag. If it's not something terribly important that's being referenced, it would be better to lose both the reference and the info than to have a citation needed tag.

By the way, EGM has indeed been around since before 1991. It came out in '89. I didn't even think of them. I'll check to see if any old issues I have (yes, I am that old) were from that time. Ryu Kaze 22:02, 21 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Mario RPG[edit]

You gonna come by? I need some help, mainly getting sources and such. I have them at my house but I can't get there till Thanksgiving. I have some ideas (for example, scrapping most of the referenes not related to video games and replacing them with a reception section, expanding the story (but I don't know how much)) Sir Crazyswordsman 02:04, 14 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I created List of locations in Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars (but, we're probably going to rename it to something like Mushroom Kingdom (Super Mario RPG) pretty soon, since it's a world article now, instead of a list). I need help expanding the Creatures and races section, but any help would be great! Do you think you could help? Thanks in advance! Taric25 17:01, 29 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Chrono Trigger References[edit]

Look here. Ex-Nintendo Employee is removing all of the game quote references from the plot section of Chrono Trigger. I have to say, more than 2 inline citations in one sentence look odd to me. You still have sentences with 3 and 4 citations. I think 2 would be enough for most people. In general, the article is very nice - you certainly have a lot of experience with video games. Good job!

Games sales data / Are you familiar with the "Shrine of Data"?[edit]

I googled "Shrine of Data" when seeing a mention in Edge magazine in relation to site of the month pick vgcharts.com. It mentions in passing Shrine of Data, a site which logged Japanese sales figures. I found it and checked out archive.org, from which I found a list of top selling N64 games, of which Goemon is one. You can see the archive.org of the site here and the relevent page here. However, there aren't any mention of sources from what I gather on the website, so I don't know how accurate they are. I tried to double check by looking up sales figures in a Featured Article, Perfect Dark and then seeing if they matched. Naturally, they did, being that Perfect Dark uses the "Shrine of Data" as a source! Still, I'm not sure how much of a reliable source it is, but it might help. - Hahnchen 05:01, 12 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks; should we post the site on WP:CVG's talk page for review? Perhaps someone knows more. Anyhow, I'll get it added immediately. --Zeality 19:06, 12 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Nintendo Power[edit]

Hi, I'm trying to find some information about the development of the current GCOTW, Crystalis. There is virtually no information on the web, but I noticed in the Magazine Project that you added information on issue 12 in which there is a preview of the game and in issue 14 in which the game is featured. It would be very helpful if you do have these issues, if you could either scan them in and upload the images somewhere or type up the text. Thanks! Timkovski 17:24, 26 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Image:FrankMorphscapePose2.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:FrankMorphscapePose2.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

# Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template. # On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Oden 07:42, 28 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Chrono[edit]

I was more surprised that no one else had it on their watchlist, the Final Fantasy articles always get reverted pretty quickly. It's on mine now, though. I voted again in the FAC, I'll look through MNSG, but I'm not a very good copyeditor, so I can't promise anything there. --PresN 00:19, 5 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks![edit]

Thanks for your congratulations and kind words on the White Deer Hole Creek talk page. I have been pleasantly surprised by its reception thus far in FAC and hope all continues to go well. Four FAs and three GAs are quite an accomplishment - keep up the good work, Ruhrfisch 17:01, 8 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

FA[edit]

Hey, congrats on the FA promotion. I've added it here so it should appear on the featured article section on the portal, together with your Frank Klepacki article. Cheers, jacoplane 20:57, 9 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You haven't played Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together by any chance have you? The Gameplay section desperately needs to be expanded, but I've only played the game for about one hour so I don't exactly feel qualified to write it. Good luck on GoldenEye 007. I'll add the article to my watchlist and I'll try to see if I can help out. You should definitely ask for help from User:K1Bond007, he should be able to help you with GE much better than I can. Bands[edit]

I have added a "{{prod}}" template to the article Mo Friction, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but I don't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and I've explained why in the deletion notice (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia, or, if you disagree with the notice, discuss the issues at its talk page. Removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, but the article may still be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached, or if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria. Question[edit]

Can you explain the reasons for this edit? Raul654 00:22, 11 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

So is the image fair use or freely licensed? I used the image in hte featured articles section of the CVG portal, see Portal:Computer and video games/Featured article. If the image is fair use it will have to be removed. Also, since you did such a great job on Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon, you might be interested in the current GCOTW: Goemon's Great Adventure. Orphaned fair use image (Image:Bitt1cd.jpg)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Bitt1cd.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Chrono series[edit]

Hey Zeality, I was wondering, want to make a push to get the Chrono Series and the five games related to it as as Featured Topic? It has 2 FA's, 2 GA's, and an article we could improve a little bit....I think it is very doable :) Judgesurreal777 21:13, 1 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • From what I've read, the major sticking point has been comprehensiviness, like we couldn't nominated all of the games except Chrono Trigger or something, or have them have only one featured and the rest are crap. I think we'll be good with these, 2 featured, two GA, and maybe get Final Fantasy one up to GA... :) Judgesurreal777 05:07, 4 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
    • We almost made GA for the Final Fantasy article, we just need to address the small critique of our GA reviewer, wanting more reviews or something? We are so close! If you help finish off this article, I'll submit it for Featured Topic! Judgesurreal777 18:10, 27 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:PTWishbone.ogg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:PTWishbone.ogg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. ShakespeareFan00 21:22, 13 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

A request[edit]

Hi. I saw your work on getting Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon up to featured status, and thought you might be able to help me with a problem. A featured article candidate of mine, System Shock, is taking heat from User:Tony1 for its prose. Before nominating the article, I did my best to copyedit it, but my writing abilities are sub-par. Plus, since I wrote the majority of the article, my ability to copyedit it was even more limited than usual. The people I normally ask have stopped taking copyediting requests, and the League of Copyeditors has failed to respond to my request in more than two weeks. Since you were able to satisfy Tony1's prose standards with your Goemon nomination, I thought that you might be able to assist me. If you have time, I would be extremely grateful if you gave the article a once-over. JimmyBlackwing 21:23, 14 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • Wow, thanks! I wasn't expecting such an enthusiastic response. JimmyBlackwing 23:05, 14 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
    • I'll inform Deckiller and Tony1 that the article has been copyedited. Huge thanks. JimmyBlackwing 23:46, 14 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
      • Yep. I really cannot thank you enough for that copyedit, but here's a small token of my appreciation:

Hello, Zeality. An automated process has found and removed an image or media file tagged as nonfree media, and thus is being used under fair use that was in your userspace.
