Victoire de Margerie, is a French businesswoman, born April 6, 1963, in Suresnes (Hauts-de-Seine).
She sits on several boards of directors. From 2003 to 2011, she was professor of strategic management at Grenoble School of Management. Since 2009, she has been CEO and main shareholder of Rondol Technology (a Franco-British micromechanics company), and since 2015, vice-president of the World Materials Forum.[1]
Biography
[edit]Victoire de Margerie is the daughter of Pierre-Alain Jacquin de Margerie, insurer, and Colette Taittinger. Her grandfather is the businessman and politician Pierre Taittinger. She is therefore part of the Taittinger and Jacquin de Margerie families.[citation needed]
His half-brother, Christophe de Margerie (1951–2014), was chairman and CEO of Total from 2010 to 2014.[citation needed]
After studying at HEC Paris (class of 1983) then at Sciences Po (class of 1986), in 1994 she obtained a continuing education diploma at the Institut für Management und Technologie in Berlin and in 1997 a diploma continuing education at the Stanford Graduate School of Business. Since 2007, she has held a PhD in management sciences from Paris-Panthéon-Assas University.[2]
After leaving Sciences Po, she joined the subsidiary of Elf Aquitaine, Elf Atochem - which later became Arkema - as head of the European commercial network and then as director of mergers and acquisitions Europe from 1990s.[3]
In 1992, after having built a plastic extrusion factory in Leipzig, she took over as general manager before moving in 1995 to CarnaudMetalBox – a company since bought by Crown Holdings – as quality director of the Europe division. In 1998, she joined Rio Tinto Alcan, which she left in 2002 with the position of general manager of the “plastic bottles” division (in Chicago).[4]
In 2003, her career shifted towards teaching when she became a professor of management at Grenoble School of Management. During her eight years of teaching, she published four works dealing with managerial practices, governance and business strategy.[5]
Alongside her chair, in 2011 she became president of Rondol Technology, a manufacturer of plastics processing machines for “micro” and “nano” applications, a position she still holds today in addition to her five corporate mandates. Rondol is recognized as an innovative SME in the American healthcare market.[6]
Victoire de Margerie is also a speaker at the French Institute of Administrators.[citation needed]
She was elected a member of the Academy of Technologies in 2019.[citation needed]
