Wikipedia:WikiProject Consumer Reports/experimental work space

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Consumer Reports engineers and scientists develop metrics for quantifying the quality of products and services. The information about these metrics have no affiliation with any particular producer or provider or a product or service, but rather is an aid for consumers to understand the nature of the goods and services which they use.

Consumer Reports produces text, pictures, and video media related to product and service testing. At this time it is not certain of the way or extent to which this media could be shared with the Wikipedia community.

The licensing template for Consumer Reports media is at commons:Template:Media owned by Consumer Reports.

Text

[edit]

One type of text which Consumer Reports produces is "Buying Guides". Wikipedia does not publish "How to" guides - see WP:NOTHOWTO - but these Consumer Reports guides do typically list the product traits on which the quality of a product may be judged. For example,

Potential integration of information
Wikipedia article Consumer Reports text
Countertop Countertops
Tap (valve) Faucets
Kitchen cabinet Kitchen cabinets
Electric razor electric razors
Hair coloring hair dyes
Glucose meter blood glucose meters
Toothbrush Toothbrushes
Bike helmet bike helmets

Pictures

[edit]

Consumer Reports has continual photo documentation of product testing procedures since the 1930s.

Many of these photos could be shared if Consumer Reports and the Wikipedia community developed a plan for deciding which photos to share and in which way.

Expert review

[edit]

Consumer Reports employees scientists and engineers who propose and measure metrics for determining quality. These people could also review Wikipedia articles and suggest where to find published reliable sources for developing those articles.
