Wikipedia:DYK partial checks

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Some admins do an admin check of a single hook or several hooks within a DYK prep set as a way to contribute without committing to checking an entire prep.

Background

[edit]

Prep sets are moved to queue in a single admin move which is attributed to the admin doing the move. Typically this requires the admin who does the move-to-queue to conduct up to nine full re-reviews of the hooks in that set. Depending on the level of expertise of and care taken by the nominator, reviewer, and promoter of a given hook within the set, this can require questions to be raised at WT:DYK in order to complete the check and hooks to be pulled and replaced if these questions can't be resolved. The entire process can therefore be time-consuming, and as a result DYK experiences admin backlogs often in this area.

Some admins who aren't willing to or are unable to check a full prep set do partial checks, hoping to assist whichever admin does the eventual move-to-queue by reducing the workload for that admin.

Instructions

[edit]

Partial checks are done while the set is still in prep, which signals to other admins that a full check has not been committed to.

The admin doing these partial checks signals that they've checked a particular entry by marking the hook in prep as:

 1.  Done, indicating the admin has re-reviewed this entry and no problems were found
 2. , indicating the admin has raised a question about the entry at WT:DYK

and then signing, to show which admin has done this.

This signal appears as a line after the hook and should be removed by the admin doing the move at the time of the move to queue.

Attribution

[edit]

Admins doing the move are of course free to do their own re-check of hooks marked with a  Done, since the queue is promoted under their username and many editors will still consider any remaining errors within the set to be the moving admin's responsibility.

Another option is to add the admin(s) who did other checks to the DYKbotdo template after the move is completed.

The code for a set moved by RoySmith looks like this:

RoySmith (talk))

Inserting:

and Valereee (talk
