Warming Centers

Warming centers have evolved as a means of preventing hypothermia deaths in communities where there is not an adequate capacity in existing homeless shelters to handle overload conditions during inclement weather conditions. I intend to create a page but am concerned that the intitial stub would be deleted for lack of sufficient content. Also, it is more important to clean up the other existing pages such as homeless shelters, which is really a mess.

I and other editoris have also noticed many edits which are performed by people with a clear agenda to stigmative vulnerable populations. For instance, begging. In the message boards lately, I have had to police various posts promoting illegal violent and even terroristic action to harass homeless people. Homeless folks have in recent years been shot in multiple homicides, doused with gasoline and set on fire. Need I say more?

(Note this is a special purpose user account and is consistent with policy please contact me directly and privately if you have any questions. My main account is readily traceable to me personally.

I intend also to release this account name to a government advisory board to which I am applying for a position advising on homeless policy issues. Because it is not unlikely that some kind of stalker may become interested in this account, I will separate non related edit activity related to my academic specialty. I should probably contact the appropriate wiki team on that issue, but am including this language for your info as well. )

At any rate, what you could do is advise me on this question: At what point is a stub well enough established to avoid rapid deletion for lack of content? Which templates could best be used to fend that off? How much time can you buy to develope content and how long do you need to make the article before you are safely established?? • One way to avoid a rapid delete due to lack of content is to make a WP:userspace draft at User:Brothercanyouspareadime/warming center. This could give you a year to develop the material and then you can move it. to warming center. The topic sounds quite reasonable, and if you can get two sentences in, or a picture or a couple of references it should survive a lack of content delete. List of warming centers could be a separate article as long as you have a criterion for inclusion and a reference to support each entry.

Proposal for new page: Houseless

"Houseless" is a self definition utilized by some persons who are labeled homeless. The term has caught on in with some mainstream usage but it has not proliferated universally.

It is important for wikipedia to cover the development of the houseless model as it gains prominence.

For example, "Houseless is Not Homeless" was a display at the Talley Student Center on the campus of North Carolina State University in Raleigh, North Carolina, which then moved to the Durham Public Library from September 9 to October 27. The theme was to give voice to the individuals involved: Citation: "The human voice is critical," explains Betsalel. "We want the average person to hear their voices." The term homeless is inadequate, according to those activists who do use the term.

I will be preparing a letter to the (Location Witheld) Advisory Board on Homelessness in which I will provide some historical information on the use of the term and provide a citation basis for the article which I will then post.

Please advise how much content and how many citations are required to create a useful stub that avoids speedy deletion???

The basic criterion is that the topic has appeared in two independent reliable sources. The exhibition could count as evidence of notability, but it is hard to confirm once it has shut down, and may or may not be reliable. You should also be able to find a newspaper or magazine article on that topic. Otherwise there could just be a houseless or houselesness redirect to homelessness and a paragraph added to that article if there is not enough beyond a definition or one point of view. I was surprised not to see an article about Care.com. I am researching work life benefits companies and they weren't there. Is anyone interested in writing about internet companies that help women? Let me know.

BTW - I found Care.com when the tiger mother articles came out in the CNN (http://www.cnn.com/2011/LIVING/01/13/chinese.mom.superior/index.html) I found this very interesting in China. Wendy Sachs is from Care.com.
