OriginalPyrosoma atlanticum, a tunicate, or colony of zooids, in a tide pool in California
Reason
When I came across this in a tide pool near Monterey, California, I had no idea what it was. In fact, it is a pyrosome, a colony of little creatures that floats around the ocean, connected by a gelatinous "tunic". Strange things. I think EV is the main thing here -- we have very few pictures of these, and this one depicts its unusual form/texture better than the others, I think. When I nominated this last year, it was closed with 3 supports and 0 opposes. Sending it in one more time to get a clearer result.

  • Support, with some slight reservations. It's slightly grainy, and I'd prefer a little more resolution, and it's unfortunate there's no real scale, either in the image or description. But they are rare on here, the photo can hardly be considered bad, and underwater photography is considered one of the most difficult kinds. I can't speak as to accuracy of colours, but it looks about right. So, I think that's a clear support. Nice work. Adam Cuerden (talk)Has about 8.9% of all FPs 17:35, 19 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Thanks. I'll have a go at a noise reduction later. I didn't measure at the time, but I would estimate maybe 3.5" long and about .75" wide at the widest point? FWIW. — Rhododendrites talk \\ 20:53, 19 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support - needs a little noise reduction, but this is not a deal-breaker. MER-C 17:39, 19 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • @Adam Cuerden and MER-C: FYI I've uploaded another version. Not a substantial change. I did a selective denoise of the background (most of it) and a separate, lesser selective denoise of the subject (about 33% of it). Obviously there's not a vote I'm asking you to change, but would appreciate your thoughts about whether you think it's an improvement. — Rhododendrites talk \\ 21:13, 19 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • I feel it's a net improvement. Any chance of doing the same to the jade vine image? MER-C 11:56, 20 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
