About the event[edit]
Glasgow Women’s Library is the only museum dedicated to women’s history in the UK. Theirs is a Recognised Collection of National Significance to Scotland, and contains rare and unique items that explore every aspect of women’s lives. This editathon will use items from their collection and other resources from the library to add and improve content on Wikipedia relating to women and women's history.
21 Revolutions is an ongoing project, launched initially to celebrate the library's 21st birthday. 21 artists & 21 writers were commissioned to create work inspired by the collection. We'll use the 21 Revolutions publication as a jumping-off point to delve into the world of Wikipedia.
Wikipedia recognises that it has a gender gap, and various steps are being taken to address this. Join us for this editathon, and help to close the gap!
- How do I prepare?
- Sign up for the event
- Create a Wikipedia account
- Bring a laptop (wi-fi will be provided) (some laptops are available to borrow, please ask in advance)
- Learn about editing if you like - we'll be using the Visual Editor.
- Think about what you would like to edit about - you can even prepare some materials to bring with you on the day
Notability[edit]
All articles on Wikipedia must meet the standards of notability. If you're planning to write a biography of a living person, it's worth looking at these guidelines.
