What is #1Lib1Ref[edit]
Wikipedia’s annual 1Lib1Ref campaign is organised by librarians around the world to add missing references to articles on Wikipedia making the website more accurate and creditable. Who better to add creditable references than Librarians!
State Library of Queensland benefits from this program too, by linking our content and collections in Wikipedia articles we can reach a global audience and increase online traffic. Wikipedia is the world’s 5th most visited website, attracting 6.1 billion clicks per month! Whenever you google any topic, a Wikipedia article will for sure be one of the top search results.

How can you help?[edit]
During the campaign (15 January 2023 – 5 February 2023 & 15 May 2022 – 5 June 2022) choose a State Library blog, collection record, digital collection or website and add a citation link to a relevant Wikipedia article. For example, a paragraph about State Library's recent acquisition of John Oxley's Letters could be added the John Oxley Wikipedia article, linking the catalogue record or the digitised version of the letters. Make as many edits as you want!
For those who haven’t used Wikipedia before or would like a set time to make edits, Collection Engagement is hosting weekly Drop-in editing sessions, see dates and times below. Please BYO your own laptop. Otherwise, please contact Tania Schafer or Troy Keith who can give you an overview on how to make basic edits to Wikipedia.

Dashboard[edit]
IMPORTANT: Before you start, please make sure your Wiki username is listed in this dashboard. The dashboard will track our work during the campaign. Contact Tania Schafer or Troy Keith to add your Wiki username to the Dashboard.
Editing Tasks[edit]
You can choose any Wikipedia article and use any SLQ content to cite - the website, catalogue records, blogs. All our blogs have a creative commons license so you can copy part of the text from a blog and insert it into a wiki page, then cite the blog (use the SLQ blog citation template below). For example we have a blog on the stinging gympie gympie plant, copy some text from the blog, insert it into the Wikipedia article (Dendrocnide moroides) and reference the blog or add a liqblhof
nk to the blog under External Links heading in the bottom of the Wikipedia page.

SLQ Blog Citation Template[edit]
Follow the steps below to use the Creative Commons citation template for referencing SLQ's blog:
- Highlight the text you want to reference.
- Click on Cite.
- Click on the Manual Tab - Basic.
- Click on Insert - Template.
- Search for SLQ and click on the SLQ CC BY template. Fill in the details of the reference.
- Click insert to finish the citation!
