From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Notice of obsolescence:
Community sanctions in this area of conflict have been superseded by an Arbitration Committee sanctions regime. As a result, this community sanctions-related page is now obsolete, is retained only for historical reference, and should not be modified. For more information about Arbitration Committee sanctions, see this page. For the specific Committee decision that rescinded or modified these community sanctions, see Wikipedia:Arbitration/Requests/Case/Iranian politics#Contentious topic designation

Community discussion

[edit]

A community discussion at the administrators' noticeboard has placed all pages with content related to post-1978 Iranian politics, broadly construed, under indefinite general sanctions, effective 10:22, 17 August 2019.

Remedies

[edit]

This remedy authorizes the contentious topics designation, as described below. Sanctions imposed cannot be undone by another administrator without approval of the sanctioning administrator or by an appeal to WP:AN. Pages may be tagged with {{IRANPOL GS talk}}, and {{IRANPOL GS editnotice}} may be used to indicate that articles are under general sanctions. The presence of these templates is not a prerequisite for issuing sanctions, but editors must be made aware of these sanctions prior to being sanctioned. Editors must be notified of the contentious topic designation with the {{subst:gs/alert|irp}} template or by a talk page message linking to this page. For blocks, use {{subst:Uw-csblock}} or inform them of the block using a custom message. Sanctions imposed under this regime must be logged below.

  • Any uninvolved administrator may, at his or her own discretion, impose sanctions on any editor working in the area of conflict if, despite being warned, that editor repeatedly or seriously fails to adhere to the purpose of Wikipedia, any expected standards of behavior, or any normal editorial process.
  • The sanctions imposed may include blocks of up to one year in length, bans from editing any page or set of pages within the area of conflict, bans on any editing related to the topic or its closely related topics, restrictions on reverts or other specified behaviors; or any other measures which the imposing administrator believes are reasonably necessary to ensure the smooth functioning of the project.
  • Prior to any sanctions being imposed, the editor shall be given a warning with a link to this decision and, where appropriate, should be counseled on specific steps that he or she can take to improve his or her editing in accordance with relevant policies and guidelines.
  • Sanctions imposed may be appealed to the imposing administrator or at the appropriate administrators' noticeboard.

Log of notifications

[edit]
Manually logging notifications is no longer required when using {{subst:Gs/alert|irp}}. This section is retained for historical purposes.

List here editors who have been placed on notice of the remedies in place (including the diff of the notification). For convenience, the template {{subst:IRANPOL GS notification}} may be used, or an individual message containing the same information. Editors who log a notification here are also considered to be aware of the sanctions.
