Hello! I got a welcome and followed a link here. I look forward to contributing on Wikipedia! I also have a lot of time on my hands (currently), so I can do some research and expand on miscellanious articles.

I'm a new member to Wikipedia, but I've been using the 'site for quite some time. It's helped me alot with research for college and just in general. I look forward to adding to otherp pages and even making my own, like for example the IYH article I'm finishing. Casper Raid 13:55, 1 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Not terribly new, since I sort of just dove right into things, but here I am. I'm Keakealani....More about me on my user page, but...I'm mostly interested in doping copy-editing, although of course I'd be happy to lend any of my plethora of random facts to any article that so deserves it...however, it seems that most of the articles I have any knowledge about are already pretty full of facts so I'd be more comfortable working with existing texts with the attempt to make them better

Besides which, the NOR policy makes it difficult, since I don't honestly know where I've gotten most of my knowledge from and therefore can't verify/cite *shrug*

I don't know quite where I found out about wikipedia...probably doing research for school, since this is my typical starting point (I LOVE the "see also"s, they can get me quite far), but I dunno. Needless to say, the idea was right up my alley, since I love to edit and I know lots of random stuff.

Well, hello, anyway ^^;

Defensive Computing

[edit]

Just added an article on a phrase I have found out on the web - thought it was worth adding for definition purposes. I hope that I can add more as I have a chance.

Thanks... — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dfense (talkcontribs)

Keep in mind the Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not a dictionary. If you want to add simple definitions, Wiktionary may be a better choice. Keakealani //Me/Pokeh// 20:29, 1 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Greetings. I am a high school educator. My experience as a math instructor exceeds a decade and I now work as an administrator in a large suburban school.

I still have a great amount of interest in furthering math education, which is why I have created a website to help people learn math. The site is at MATHguide.com and it contains lessons, dynamic quizzes, teacher aids, and more.

[edit]

Hi. I came to Wikipedia by way of the recent essay in the New Yorker. Curious, I found an excellent biography of my father, then began browsing through artists' bios (I am a painter and college teacher. ), and was surprised/dismayed at the need for editing. So I am attempting to correct style and substance of some of the entries, first as an unlisted visitor, now as a logged-in contributor. For the moment, this is a pleasant way to spend free time, at least until the academic year kicks in again, or I start my next painting, whichever comes first. --JNW 22:08, 1 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Hi, I've loved Wikipedia for about a year now; the "random article" feature can keep me fascinated for hours. I live in Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan, and noticed that the articles about that region are a bit threadbare, so decided to help patch them up. I've decided to start with the train lines and stations, since this is an interest of mine. I can read Japanese a little, and need to practice, so I'll be reading Kanagawa-related information on Japanese Wikipedia and bringing it across. I hope also to be able to take and contribute some good photos of the area.

JCNSmith

[edit]

Having just registered with Wikipedia today, I am working my way through the introductory and tutorial information as quickly as possible to avoid commiting Wiki faux pas. My passion is the fundamental nature of time. I have been doing research on the topic for over 40 years, and gradually have come to amass a collection of relevant thoughts which I believe are both original and constructive. A gist of these may be found at http://smithjcn.googlepages.com/time. It is my hope that some of these ideas might eventually be incorporated into the Wikipedia. However, my introductory reading already has brought me to the "no original research" rule, which, at first glance would seem to rule out any contribution. This strikes me somehow as a bit of a "Catch 22;" at the same time, however, I can see a possible rationale for such a policy. So for now I will continue on with the Wiki tutorials and see where they lead.

Hello all, I am a researcher interested in community development. I like to learn new stuff and share knowledge with everyone else. I love research and greek philosophy, I also enjoy sailing, riding and doing long walks in the country. I also love cooking (italian, greek) and going out for dinner with friends, especially in greek restaurants.

I am interested in pretty much everything and my areas of knowledge are knowledge technologies (especially knowledge engineering), knowledge management, focusing on human aspects and knowledge cooperation, focusing on communities of practice, distance cooperation, distance- and e-learning. Finally knowledge theory, especially Radical Constructivism.

At Wikipedia I would like to create new articles that have to do with subjects that are not on wikipedia yet as well to contribute extending existing articles in my areas of knowledge.

Design Thinking

[edit]

I am a design thinker and would like to add this topic more broadly to the wikipedia community.

A passion for Wyoming football

[edit]

My handle is DCPoke which reflects that I am an alumnus of the University of Wyoming working in Washington, DC. I am a full-time permanent Federal employee of the Federal Emergency Management Agency, Department of Homeland Security.

One of my main passions is college football, particularly University of Wyoming football. I follow the Cowboys closely and travel to at least one home game and one road game each season. This year I'm lucky in that Wyoming plays the University of Virginia in Charlottesville on Sept. 9, 2006. That makes for a short trip.

I registered to edit Wikipedia articles when I found no references to UW's current coach, Joe Glenn. I wrote the initial entry which others have graciously edited and formatted for me.

I want to continue to impove the Joe Glenn entry and add other references to former Wyoming coaches and players. I also want to learn how to use the markup language which seems to be related to XML.

I'm an academic and writer

[edit]

Hello, I'm Rimi B. Chatterjee, an academic and writer based in Kolkata, India. I speak English and Bengali. My areas of specialisation include history of the book, Indian writing in English, and creative writing. I have a novel published by Penguin India and another on the way. I also blog. I have minor areas of interest in martial arts, theatre, botany, manga and anime, science fiction, romantic literature in English, especially the Shelleys, and a few other things which escape me right now. I've recently published the definitive history of OUP in India, so I'm writing up OUP's page in this resource; please view and give me feedback and help out with stubs.

I figured that since so many of my students cite (or in unfortunate cases rip off) Wikipedia articles, I might as well help out here as well! Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if there's anything I can do or need to know. Also a few tips on the citation and reference markup and template usage would be appreciated.

I plan to badger my colleagues around the world to help with Wikipedia. The scope and capabilities of this thing are incredible. And what an amazing community! I'm gobsmacked. Rimi 04:53, 12 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I found out about Wikipedia when I Googled "Hurricane Katrina" for a project, and the top result was a link to the article on Wikipedia. Thanks to your information, I got an A- (being in my own words, of course). That's about it. Cheers! T•h•e R.S.J. 14:57, 24 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I'm a Dutch student, and I'm interested in old sailships and some other things. I tried creating a new page on a Dutch maritime painter, Abraham Storck. But I'm not sure if I did everything right. But I like the site, I just looked at how the other articles were written and tried to do the same. SchipperAnnetje 09:47, 26 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Glad to be part of this great community, and hoping to contribute as much as I can. Professionally a software developer, I have interests in travelling, photography, music etc... Have been a reader of Wikipedia for a long time, and a passive editor as well for quite a while. --Hari 18:51, 26 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
