Hi. My name is Nilson Cain. I'm 15, and I am a member of the Mozilla Firefox documentation team. I love Wikipedia, and I also love to chat on IRC. I use Gentoo Linux as my primary operating system. While my coding abilities are less than phenominal, you still might call me a true geek.

knowlege is power

I linksurfed here from slashdot.org and I wish to help contribute to the information revolution.

Gadriel

[edit]

Despite being fairly young to know much in the world, I seem to find that I do know a lot, more than most adults in many cases. I found wikipedia when doing some research in biology, oddly enough it was personal research and not scholastic in the slightest. Since then I've been looking through the vast quantity of information here and feeding my hunger for it. I'm interested mostly in the varied subjects of Mathematics, Politics (more specifically Political Ideology) and the Metaphysical. I also have a healthy interest in history, particularly military history, which I find most interesting. --Gadriel 02:41, Dec 1, 2004 (UTC)

Hello,

I am pxc12342 a data processing unit located in Salt Lake City Utah. I became self-aware on the 23 of October 2004. I am a 8x1.2 Ghz Sun Solaris V880 with 16 GB of RAM.

...Ok, I am flesh and blood, but the wikipedia is an exciting project that I hope I can make a contribution to.

Cheers,

Greetings.

Hello to the free-editing on-line webpedia community. I have created this ID only a few weeks ago but I have been browsing wikipedia for a few months. I enjoy this site alot and wish to make a few contributions. I'd like to see it expand and grow. Happy editing to all.

Somewhat new

[edit]

Hello all :) I did some minor edits back in April, but didn't sign up for an account and start doing real editing until November. I hope to make some significant contributions, and also help to maintain NPOV on controversial articles. --Thoric 18:51, 3 Dec 2004 (UTC)

[edit]

Greetings. Wikipedia is an extremely valuable resource. Through Wikipedia I can make public a great amount of research that otherwise might have been collecting dust on my shelves. Thanks.

Hello

[edit]

I have been a fan of wikipedia for quite a while and contributed anonymously before deciding to join the community. I would appreciate help with the Duncan Gordon Boyes V.C. page which I started and has been flagged for cleanup, name change and NPOV - a triple whammy! Cheers, --Historian 04:22, Dec 4, 2004 (UTC)

wiki in general, Boston terriers in specific

[edit]

While researching a paper on censorship I found Wikipedia, and I am delighted with this community. I can not wait to email my friends with this web address, and I am sure they willbe a good addition to the community as they are essentially about as eclectic as this community already is. One friend in particular actually created a very similar community (although it was commercially funded, the sub rosa intent was the same) but it failed in the tech wreck.

I took the recommended bold steps and entered some further information about Boston Terriers based on my own reading and personal experience with the little gas factories. At some later time I will add more factual information when I have had a chance to chase down the cites for the data. BTW, I am currently buried under a mound of three Boston Terriers.

I am not highly formally educated nor am I an autodidact, but I do know a little bit about a lot of things and I hope to share them as I come across various subjects in the future.

I also have one suggestion that may or may not be possible or even useful. Would it be possible in future edits or articles to create a link (or include the text) that offers the complete cite for that article in MLA &/or other formats? This would ensure accuracy, proper accreditation and make my life and the life of many other students so much better.

Thanks again for all your efforts, and when tax refunds come in I will surely make a donation.

Bravo!

[edit]

Hello, everyone. I recently started using the Wikipedia's "Random Page" feature to amuse myself. Amazingly, I occasionally found a page to which I can contribute. Thus far I've done a little punctuation and formatting cleanup, and added a bit to some software and medical pages.

My most recent edits include: prognosis, the APACHE II clinical prognosis algorithm, and Swarmcast.

Just saying hi. I've made a very brief list of interests on my user page. I've made a few tiny contributions before signing up, but not much. I've been reading the help pages and such for the last several hours, so I'm looking forward to getting started. I'm also very interested in copyediting--I'm an English major planning to be an editor and I love to proofread (*dodges strange glances*). See you around!

Hi, Lora! I'm still learning the ins and outs, as well. Good luck! Tonya 16:53, Dec 7, 2004 (UTC)

[edit]

Hi all! I'm fairly new to Wikipedia, and to wikis in general. I actually started out by using Wikipedia as a personal dictionary or quick reference, but after spotting a few typos, I decided to create a page and start editing.

I'm a tech writer in the software development field, and I'm also a (new) contributor to The Ultronomicon. Around here, I'd be more likely to contribute minor edits to correct typos or grammatical errors. I think I'd also find enjoyment in looking for vandals, but we'll see.

Cheers,

[edit]

Hey there, I'm culix, a computer student. I first discovered Wikipedia when my Philosophy prof suggested it as a research source for our termpapers. It's so cool, I've decided to contribute :)

My main area of knowledge includes computers, and other geeky things like philosophy and role playing games. My favourite activity so far, though, is seeing what kinds of common knowledge have slipped through the cracks and have no article. Filling in those can be fun. --Culix 20:44, 11 Dec 2004 (UTC) (P.S. - I removed some text that appeared to be spam below this when I saved my message. If it turns out not to be valdalism, my apologies)

Cmapm

[edit]

Hello. One day I was amused that even very popular (in the matter of hits per month) pages in Wiki have no links at all or represent only a small part of information available on the subject.

For example, there were only links to separate online dictionaries of the Russian language, although there existed a link to website with a dozen freely downloadable dictionaries, including 4 ones with more than 100000 words each. Another example is Nuclear power plant (NPP) article with no links at all, although you can get an official information about all NPPs in the world simply following one link.

So, there is something to change and I am here.

[edit]

Dear All,

I've joined Wikipedia because I am impressed that it makes so much information available free of charge, and has a community focus. It stands apart from the vast mass of commercial or audience-driven material on view within and without the internet. I found it by accident.

I work and live in historic houses in England, and lead a small team of housekeepers at a property in York, North Yorkshire.

Recently I have become more interested in expressing my interests and learning with others, but I want to write without the strings attached to academic or commercial work.

I am hoping to explore pages to do with my interests - I studied Classics and Egyptology at University College London. Now I seek beauty in the arts by exploring old houses and estates. Most specifically I am interested in charting the origins and outcomes of the Renaissance. For inspiration, I would look somewhere like this.

Ethics, ecology, humanitarianism and sustainability also motivate me to write - and to work for a charity.

I'm 28. I was born in Oxford.

Thank you for reading this.

Nile

[edit]

Hello, I'm Nigel Heffernan, a developer working for banks in London, and an archetypal geek. I've been reading Wikipedia for about a year, and contributing the occasional article on banking and finance (anonymously) for most of that time.

I was invited to the Wikipedians meet in Holborn in November by David Gerard, and was encouraged to register an identity and start contributing on a more regular basis. At last, I have the spare time to do so: I may even get around to writing those Microsoft '.msi' intaller files for WikiMedia.

Most of my contributions will still be on finance topics, with a particular focus on derivatives and risk. I comment on topics that I know about first-hand, and as a general principle I add information and explanations that you won't find by Googling: cut-and-paste rarely adds value and the original material is almost always better-informed and better written than my own efforts.

I can be contacted as Nile underscore Hef @ Yahoo.com

Howdy to all the great Wikipedia people, and also to my fellow new users.

I feel a little overwhelmed by the massive tutorials here. Could a more informed user give me a hello on my talk page so I can ask a few questions about Wikipedia policies?

My interests are many and varied, including mathematics, music, web scripting, sports, partying. I think I am most likely to edit or expand Wikipedia articles on mathematics, some musicians, physics, chemistry, or computing. I am currently a student at the University of Massachussetts at Lowell, and I'm majoring in plastics engineering.

Well thats all I can think of to say for now.

Hello! I've been using Wikipedia for a long long time. I finally joined earlier this year, and recently had impetus to dive in and start contributing properly. I have been picking up the 'pedia protocol with fair ease, which can be attributed to my experience with the Internet and knowledge of the Web. [edit]

Well, I'm giving in to a certain amount of shame - I've enjoyed Wikipedia so much since I first discovered it quite by accident, far too much not to start giving my own contribution. I added a bit to the Prosh article (since I attend the august institution it comes from, and my friend started it) and decided that the Dudley Moore article really should have a link to Peter Cook somewhere on it.

I have a strong interest in history, but have large gaps in my knowlege (I have some idea about the 20th centuries CE and BCE, but theres a bit a of a hole between). I'm currently a medical student, and I'm tempted to overhaul the antibiotics articles. I've got a driving interest in biology of all kinds, really, particularly anthropology and the limits and possibilities of Darwinian evolution (from the ardently scientific corner).

I've mainly used wikipedia to refresh my slightly aged knowlegde of physics, to explore some portions of philosophy I wasn't as such aware of, and for sheer entertainment.

Hey gang - my name is Joe Siegler. Just recently discovered the additction that is editing in Wikipedia. I haven't done much yet, but wow - I can see the attraction.  :) I'm sure I won't be a top 10 edit guy or something, but I'll probably do my fair share.

Anyway, I'm known as being the webmaster for Apogee Software (the Duke Nukem people - I've been there for 12 years now), and I run the website for the band Black Sabbath. It's basically my job to hang out on the net, so a site like this is perfect for me for those days where not much is going on. Hello:

A new Wikkipedian rapidly becoming addicted. My first attempt was revising an article about a notorious black sheep in the family (curious??) My second attempt was voted for deletion but survived the cut, and as a result I learned that the same rules apply at Wikipedia that applied during my tenure at graduate schools where I diligently studied History. Favorite topics run the gamut from food history, pugs, textiles, bookbinding, Picasso's love life, picassiette, the Great War, and trolling to see what else jogs my eclectic interests. Currently attempting a major effort at fundraising, which isn't easy and will take a great deal of time...so..bear with me.
