From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The notes taken by Mitchazenia from the New York City Meetup on November 3, 2007.

Who are our sources?

[edit]

Our sources include targeting institutions, libraries and museums. The users expressed into taking steps to begin relationships with these places. Also to support libraries into becoming references for the English Wikipedia.

Wikimania in NYC?

[edit]

The users came up with the idea for a future Wikimania in New York City some year. This, however can/will be discussed at a later point.

Sponsorship

[edit]

The users looked into that sponsorship may be the ultimate thing for the NYC chapter to survive.

Who should we involve?

[edit]

The users expressed that students from the city and its communities to Wikipedia. These include High Schools, Colleges, Grad schools, elementary schools and Junior High Schools. Note: Don't just look at top rank schools for ideas.

Launching a teaching committee

[edit]

The idea of having a committee teaching people about Wikipedia at different places was also brought up. This idea is in the early stages.

PowerPoints and Words

[edit]

User:Regale brought up the idea of using Microsoft PowerPoint slideshows and Microsoft Word documents to teach people about the English Wikipedia.

Spreading the message

[edit]
  1. Teaching people what Wikipedia's about.
  2. Introduce people to free content. (Ideas included a photography contest).
  3. 2 cent flyers. People would hand them out in places like Prospect Park and such.

Bylaws

[edit]

None yet. Will be added on consensus and after discussions.

Where exactly is our region?

[edit]

The users expressed and discussed the idea of how far should we go outward. Places like Philly, which has their own chapter in formation, and Buffalo shouldn't really fall under our jurisdiction.
