Can. As I said, you may come and leave anytime. Terence (talk) 12:48, 10 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Unfortunately, the meetup date (29th) is a very bad day for me, with two Orientation preparation sessions and one class gathering to attend to, and the times of all three events are unconfirmed. Thus I'll most probably only be able to squeeze out a few hours to meet up, and there's even the risk of my not being able to attend. (Just to get expectations clear.) But do enjoy yourselves anyway! :D —Goh wz 18:12, 25 December 2007 (UTC) [contacted offline][reply]
  10. Mailer Diablo 10:09, 10 December 2007 (UTC) Will try to make it. [contacted offline][reply]

FAQs

[edit]

Some questions that Wikipedians always ask when attending our meetups. Here are some of them and if you have other questions, feel free to drop a note on the talk page.

  1. What are Wikipedia meetups?
Wikipedia meetups are meetings with Wikipedians residing in the same city or are just tourists who are in town and would want to attend an upcoming meetup. The participants are usually active Wikipedians and participate in a local WikiProject (such as WP:SG!) Whether you do participate in any local WikiProjects, it does not matter. If you reside in Singapore and edit other articles (not Singapore-related), you are still welcome. Anybody is welcome to the meetups. :)
  2. What can I expect when I attend these meetups?
A meetup will usually consist of a meal, followed by a Wiki-related discussion as well as a cafe talk. At meetups, topics of discussions can be of anything. We would also plan for the future of the WikiProject and the community. We would also be doing some editing at meetups, so it would be good if you were to bring your laptop (if you have one). The meetups will also try to bring Wikipedians together and promote friendship and the joy of editing. Sometimes, there may be a photography session. It would be good if you were to bring your camera along (if you do have one). Well, the most important thing is to have fun and enjoy yourself.
  3. Does it matter if I'm 12 or 70 years old, or if I do not have a laptop?
No, it does not matter. Meetups are meant to be non-partisan, so things such as age, gender, gadgets, school does not matter at all.
  4. Why do we give such a short notice?
As SGpedians' have hectic schedules, some are usually unable to confirm their attendance way in advance. They may have events that have cropped up at the last minute and are unable to come even when they confirmed way ahead of time. We certainly don't want to have that and want them to be sure if they are really coming. With such a short notice, we hope you will remember and keep the meetup date free from other commitments (unless it is very important).
  5. Must I be there the whole day? What if I have an appointment in some point of the day?
Well, we would love to have you all to spend the whole day at this meetup. However, if its not possible, then you can join us at a particular part of the meetup and leave early. Please tell us in advance, so we can plan on what to do next. If you have an appointment before/at some point/after the meetup, you may wish to join us for a section of the meetup. If you are not coming due to something happening at the eleventh hour, please inform us. Thank you.
  6. Where are you going to meet at? Where are you going to carry out your discussion? Where are you going to eat at?
The meeting point is clearly stated in the invite template, please do not ask us again. For the discussions, we plan to carry out at a cafe (Starbucks, Coffee Bean, Pacific Coffee, Gloria Jean's etc.) so we can have a drink and have a conversation at the same time. We will also be editing while we are having our discussion, if there are wireless networks available. In some cases, we may go to the library if we are doing group editing. We will usually go to foodcourts/coffee shop/fast food/restaurants for our meals. It depends on what the crowd wants to have, and it will be decided on the day itself in most cases. If we made a booking for a restaurant, it will be posted in advance.
  7. Can I bring my friend/spouse/child?
You may, but please inform us in advance. So we can do pre-meetup planning beforehand.
  8. Why do we have photography sessions?
It is to explore new places and to share our photography skills as well as our photos. From here, we hope we can also promote friendship through photography. During this sessions, we hope you will post some of your photos on Wikimedia Commons (not Wikipedia please) and share it with the world.
  9. During the photography session (if any), does it matter what camera I use?
No, no and no. It does not matter whether you have a DSLR, 35mm film camera, Medium format, point and shoot (PnS), handphone, disposable camera or none at all. As this is a meetup mainly concerning Wikipedia, photography sessions are just a part of it. If you do not have any, its ok. You can always chat with other Wikipedians along the way during this session.
  10. Can someone put up a handphone number so that those people coming in halfway during the meetup can contact someone and don't get lost?
For privacy reasons, I would email all participants my handphone number. Anything urgent or whatsoever, you can call or SMS (preferred) me. Terence (talk)
