  1. Why do you want to be a Wikipedia Ambassador?
    I am answering a call for help at the Geology Wikiproject for ambassadors. I want to encourage more people to contribute in a way that benefits the readers and the encyclopedia
  2. In three sentences or less, summarize your involvement with Wikimedia projects.
    I have worked mainly on en.Wikipedia editing and creating articles, and participating in projects including WP:Articles for creation. I am an administrator there. Also I have uploaded a few hundred images to commons.
  3. Please indicate a few articles to which you have made significant content contributions. (e.g. DYK, GA, FA, major revisions/expansions/copyedits).
    Many of my article creations are listed in these lists: User:Graeme Bartlett/Frisian pages User:Graeme Bartlett/Geology pages User:Graeme Bartlett/Chemistry pages User:Graeme Bartlett/Australian pages and also some other unsorted ones like Free androgen index Subdwarf B star Positronium hydride.
  4. How have you been involved with welcoming and helping new users on Wikipedia?
    I regularly answer question at WP:Drawing board WP:media copyright questions and in the past have done a lot of work at WP:FFU and WP:AFC. As an administrator I fairly often have to talk to people about why their new article is deleted or help them restore it.
  5. What do you see as the most important ways we could welcome newcomers or help new users become active contributors?
    We could engage far more new people in a conversation, perhaps like WP:Drawing board, about what they want to do, before they attempt something that results in a negative experience, such as article being deleted, or edit being reversed.
  6. Have you had major conflicts with other editors? Blocks or bans? Involvement in arbitration? Feel free to offer context, if necessary.
    As an administrator I have been in some conflict. For example on Talk:Mexican–American War/Archive 3 you can read allegation of corruption made against me to do with whether a hyphen or a dash should be used in the name of an article. I have never been banned.
  7. How often do you edit Wikipedia and check in on ongoing discussions? Will you be available regularly for at least two hours per week, in your role as a mentor?
    I edit almost every day, and should be able to put in two hours per week on this. That is since I pruned my watch list back from 7000 articles.
  8. What else should we know about you that is relevant to being a Wikipedia Ambassador?
    I am in Australian timezone editing from 2100-2200 and 0800-1200 UTC. I have a university degree which will help me emphasize with the students I was volunteering to help.
