  1. Why do you want to be a Wikipedia Ambassador?
I enjoy working on Wikipedia and helping others to navigate within our system. I particularly like working collaboratively here. I think I can help students to do their best work here so that both they and the encyclopedia benefit.
  2. In three sentences or less, summarize your involvement with Wikimedia projects.
I have been an editor since 2006 and an administrator since 2008. I have worked on a wide variety of topics, in ways that vary from little gnoming efforts to entire article creation.
  3. Please indicate a few articles to which you have made significant content contributions. (e.g. DYK, GA, FA, major revisions/expansions/copyedits).
I earned a GA for Camak House. I have DYKS in topics such as Zanthoxylum americanum, Pullen Memorial Baptist Church, Lucy Cobb Institute, and Wayne Greenhaw (not exhaustive). Much of that work has been collaborative.
  4. How have you been involved with welcoming and helping new users on Wikipedia?
I do some NPP, and as such come into contact with new editors. I frequently give them a welcome template. I often try to do general cleanup work and wikifying to make new articles more in line with our standards. If the new editors have questions, I try to answer them and, if relevant, point them to the proper policy or guideline pages.
  5. What do you see as the most important ways we could welcome newcomers or help new users become active contributors?
I think providing patient answers to questions is crucial. We were all "newbies" at some point, and have to remember that it can be scary to work on a topic and then look like it might disappear.
  6. Have you had major conflicts with other editors? Blocks or bans? Involvement in arbitration? Feel free to offer context, if necessary.
I have no blocks or bans and only the most minimal contact with arbitation (I once offered an opinion on whether a case should be taken). I have been involved in a mediation case regarding contents of Peter Yarrow. I was involved in discussions at Talk:Matt Sanchez when that was a contentious part of the site.
  7. How often do you edit Wikipedia and check in on ongoing discussions? Will you be available regularly for at least two hours per week, in your role as a mentor?
I edit Wikipedia almost every day, and spend many hours a week here. It should be no problem to refocus at least a couple of those hours to helping with the OA program.
  8. What else should we know about you that is relevant to being a Wikipedia Ambassador?
I'm not sure. Is there anything else you'd like to know in particular?
