Comments from Z1720[edit]

Coming here from WT:FAC. The PR nominator asked for pre-FAC advice, and many comments were about the length. My comments below are going to focus on that concern, but perhaps also focus on the primary source concerns.

  • First impression from skimming the article is the length of the "Pre-famine shocks and distress" section. I think the majority of the cutting should happen here, with the information spun out into other articles. My suggestion is that anything not directly related to the famine should be cut from the article. Also, information and sections can be merged. Examples are below:
    • "Japanese invasion of Burma" -> "According to General Archibald Wavell, Commander-in-Chief of the army in India, both the War Office in London and the commander of the British Eastern Fleet acknowledged that the fleet was powerless to mount serious opposition to Japanese naval attacks on Ceylon, southern or eastern India, or on shipping in the Bay of Bengal" This can all be cut.
    • The information of the refugees fleeing to India can be severely cut. The conditions of the refugees as they were fleeing can be moved into other articles, with brief mentions on how their conditions were bad. Also, information on their struggles to get to India are not directly related to the article, so can be cut.
    • "This, according to the Famine Commission, was in a market in which the "progress of the war made sellers who could afford to wait reluctant to sell"." Cut this: while interesting, the preceding sentence already says what this sentence is trying to say.

I am not a subject matter expert, and I am not interested enough in this topic to do the vast amount of work needed to summarise and trim the article. Can you take a look at the article and do a first pass at trimming, based on some of my suggestions above? It makes my work a lot easier because then I can start taking a look at the kept information. Z1720 (talk) 13:26, 29 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • Hey thanks for your input! I think that's enough... will remove from PR... Tks! § Lingzhi (talk|check refs) 13:59, 29 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
