Canobie Lake Park[edit]

I've listed this article for peer review because it has local or regional historic presence but the current quality of the article simply doesn't reflect that. I've been doing a lot of work on this article but I'm not yet sure where to improve this article going forward. It's still quite sloppy. In particular, the table bothers me. There's far too much empty space but I'd rather find ways to fill it up rather than just toss it away.

I would be happy to review this. I have never done it before, but I have worked on many other theme/amusement park articles. I'm going to start by running through all of the tools in the toolbox. Also, I will let you know that it may be a couple days between comments sometimes, because I am also busy with school. Elisfkc (talk) 06:37, 24 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I am currently building a draft for the rides table that includes images, but I'm finding it difficult to find photos of the rides that are open-source, as it isn't a very famous park. I've tried every avenue for open-source photos and there's just not enough content. I have already cut down on the entries in the table itself, but I'd like some suggestions on where to find more images. MichaelIvan 06:59, 13 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
That's a tough one. If you have already tried the Free Image Search Tool, then my best two suggestions at the moment are to either find pictures on Flickr and appeal to the uploader for a license change or ask Canobie Park themselves if they would be kind enough to freely license some images of the rides (like Paultons Park did). The former would be extremely time consuming and is unlikely (I've gotten it to work once out of at least ten tries). The later seems even less likely, due to the fact that they own the rides and probably don't want to give up the images (but you never know). Other than that, my only ideas are to either go visit the park yourself, once it is open again, and use those images or use images of similar rides. I apologize if you're busy Elisfkc, but do you have any additional thoughts on the article? This is still MichaelIvan, if you couldn't tell by my signature. I changed my username. BruzerFox 11:26, 9 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@BruzerFox: Not that I can think of at the moment. Elisfkc (talk) 17:28, 9 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I will add more as I am going. Feel free to just respond underneath each section. Elisfkc (talk) 06:52, 24 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Content

  1. According to Wikipedia:WikiProject Amusement Parks/Standards#Amusement parks, there should be an incidents section, if applicable. In this case, it is applicable, because apparently there was an incident in 2002 on Yankee Cannonball (USA Today, ABC News (last paragraph), & Boston Herald). There has also been an incident at the front gate.
  2. Most of the prose is good. I added a couple of places where citations are needed, and there probably are a couple of other spots.
  3. I would suggest either adding photos to table like Cedar Fair#List of attractions or have less entries (which I think is ok, because Wikipedia is not supposed to be a travel guide). Also, scrap the notes section, put that information in the prose, and make the table itself smaller (unless you add the photos).

Not Content

  1. Get rid of external links in the text or tables. They really should only be in the references, external links at the bottom, or where it says official website in the infobox.
  2. Get rid of some of the external links at the end. In my mind, the official website and maybe RCDB should be down there.
  3. Xtreme Frisbee's years need to be lined up with the rest of the table.
  4. You have 7 places that are marked as citation needed at the moment, as well as three bad references (needing titles) and four with dead links.
  5. I would highly recommend working on the Wikidata entry as well. I have already added a few new statements, but it could probably use more work. It is a huge help, especially since it can make links between the different language entries on the park, serving as a sort of backbone for the information.
  6. Add alternative text for images. See http://dispenser.homenet.org/~dispenser/cgi-bin/altviewer.py?page=Canobie_Lake_Park
  7. Personally, it it one of my pet peeves when JPEG version of a logo is used, when a PNG or SVG version is readily available. Here, there wasn't one readily available. I have found a version of the logo that is SVG in a PDF, that I have extracted and uploaded with Inkscape.
