Search suggestions in the way of Go

[edit]

I type a term into the search box.

Suggestions of what I do not want appear listed below.

The list covers the "Go" and "Search" buttons.

I have to click the mouse elsewhere on the screen to make the list vanish.

I click the "Go" and "Search" button.

I feel annoyed, angry, the urge to smash the computer.

Is there a solution other than herbal tea?

I type a term into the search box. I press Enter (= Return). Works for me. DroneB (talk) 03:35, 7 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Hi DroneB. That works if I want the "Go" button, but if I want the "Search" button, what do I do? Best, Anna Frodesiak (talk) 04:04, 7 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, Anna, you just tap the Tab ↹ key twice. The first key press moves the keyboard focus from the Search input box (which closes the drop-down list) to Go, the second one to Search – and then you press the spacebar or ↵ Enter key to activate the Search pushbutton. Yes, it's three key presses – but no mouse clicks. --CiaPan (talk) 07:19, 7 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Anna Frodesiak: You can also press the Up arrow key when typed your search term. That should move the focus to the last item of the drop-down list, which is “containing... <your search term here>”. Then you press ↵ Enter and you're done. --CiaPan (talk) 07:26, 7 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Up arrow!!!!!! Fantastique!!! You've saved me from drinking all that herbal tea, because that stuff is disgusting, just vile. Many, many thanks, CiaPan! (P.S. Pretty snazzy work there with the button images.) Best, Anna Frodesiak (talk) 07:34, 7 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
