is it possible to save a rare youtube song to a format that i can play on apple music on my phone

This process probably violates the YouTube terms of use. If when you play the video on Youtube, you see a "download" icon, then you can use that. Or you can look at Comparison of YouTube downloaders, but your operating system is not listed. Since most of these programs are open source and free, they are unlikely to appear on the Apple Store, but you could use them on another computer to extract an audio file.
