Elusive Garys Mod 10

[edit]

I am looking into buying garys mod, but everyone says 10 is the way to go. The only place so far to get it is steam, but steam only has garys mod 9 for download, where can I find and buy/download garys mod 10 without going to some shady site?

Steam is the only place you can buy Garry's Mod 10 -- no-one else will have it. It's available on its own here, for US$10 through Steam. You might have been confused because it's not called Garry's Mod 10, just Garry's Mod, but that is the 10th version.

Gmod requires a Source game to be installed (Half-life 2, Counter-strike Source, etc) so you can get it here packaged with Counter-strike.Froglars the frog (talk) 07:50, 17 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Grendel's Father

[edit]

In Beowulf, who is Grendel's father? Hrothgar said something along the lines of "he is of no threat to men" and later it seemed to imply that Hrothgar was Grendel's father. Is he? Who/what is?

See Beowulf. Just search for the word "father". -- kainaw 14:09, 17 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Don't be unhelpful. That article doesn't say anything about Grendel's father (though it mentions Beowulf's father and Heavenly Father). Traditionally, Grendel only has one parent, but if someone knows something I don't, please speak up.--The Fat Man Who Never Came Back (talk) 14:23, 17 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I'm sorry. I misread the question as "Who is Beowulf's father?" -- kainaw 15:53, 17 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The new film version does describe Hrothgar as Grendel's father, but I don't believe that was in the original poem; it was one of the changes made for this film version. -FisherQueen (talk · contribs) 11:44, 18 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thats what I thought, I thought maybe that was just part of the story I forgot, but it seemed like too big a detail just to forget.

In the original text, Grendel's father is Cain Czmtzc (talk) 15:18, 21 November 2007 (UTC).[reply]

The lack of knowledge of Grendel's father adds to the horror. In Anglo Saxon and Germanic culture ancestory and lineage was extremely important to people. For example characters in literature are constantly described in the context of their family tree, as in "Beowulf son of Ecgthow". The fact that Grendel lacks that context makes him seem even more alien, and thus increases his terror.

austrian decent

[edit]

which famous celebrity of austrian decent once shared a podium with diana ross...all this information about the celeb was acquired from wikipedia.plse help

Google is your friend. A quick Google search on the key words, restricting results to en.wikipedia.org, reveals two possibilities. Jon Voight's paternal grandfather was from Austria-Hungary. Andy Warhol's parents both were from Austria-Hungary. Both articles mention Diana Ross. Searching each article for "Ross" gives us the answer: The article on Voight specifically mentions Diana Ross calling him to the podium to present his first Oscar. 152.16.59.190 (talk) 09:51, 17 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

what is the name of this classical piece?

[edit]

Basically, I'd like to find out the name of the classical piece starting at 0:38 of this music video for a Korean pop song. I know the fact that it's a pop song sounds kinda trashy, but more importantly, I'd like to find out more about the actual classical piece. Thanks. Salut d'amour by Edward Elgar, I think. Oda Mari (talk) 19:36, 17 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, indeed. Originally written for violin and piano, it was arranged for countless other combinations of instruments. See this for a history of the piece. -- JackofOz (talk) 02:56, 18 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
