What AR Rahman songs are similar to the Slumdog Millionaire soundtrack?[edit]

When I go running, I really like several of the songs off the Slumdog Millionaire song (best for me are Jai Ho, O Saya, Millionaire, and Mausam & Escape). They're good for running bc they're fairly uptempo and have a strong beat. Also on my running playlist is Chaiyya Chaiyya which I recently learned he wrote also! I just bought some CD of 25 greatest hits and they're good but not really good for running - sort of more typical Bollywood music, generally too slow and sing-songy. The amount of music he's written is pretty overwhelming and besides that CD I don't really know where to start. Does anyone have recommendations for other AR Rahman songs that would be good for me to run to? Calliopejen1 (talk) 01:49, 14 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know anything about Rahman, but my advice to you would be not just to look for songs by him but by other similar artists, any of whom might have done some good uptempo songs. If you look at his Last FM page you can see a bunch of names of similar artists. Click on their pages and you can listen to sound samples by them. You can also listen to a whole lot of Rahman samples on that page, which might also help you find some good songs. --Richardrj talk email 11:34, 14 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I'll check out last.fm. I've been listening to a Pandora station that's decent, but I think their stock of Indian music probably isn't the bext... Calliopejen1 (talk) 13:34, 14 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Does this movie exist?[edit]

I think I vaguely remember watching a movie when I was little (so maybe early 90s?) where someone's stomach bursts open and it's full of bugs of some sort, maybe beetles or mealworms. Maybe I'm just remembering some nightmare that got mixed up with Alien somewhere along the way, who knows. If anyone remembers this too I'd love to know which movie struck me as so terrifying! Calliopejen1 (talk) 01:56, 14 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Possibly Oogie Boogie in The Nightmare Before Christmas. John M Baker (talk) 05:08, 14 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm I was thinking of a live-action movie, but then maybe I'm misremembering. Calliopejen1 (talk) 13:34, 14 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
It happens to Brian Thompson's character (Bozworth) in Fright Night II (1988). (Here he is eating a bug, I think) ---Sluzzelin talk 13:47, 14 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I think that happens in Mummy 2. Was it an Egyptian themed movie? Googlemeister (talk) 13:55, 14 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
It's definitely not Mummy 2 (I would have been old enough to remember it clearly). Fright Night II sounds like a possibility - I'll investigate that a little more. :) Calliopejen1 (talk) 19:45, 15 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Looking for a track where a woman sings "This is house music"[edit]

Hi all. I am looking for a track which I liked very much but unfortunately I can't find the name of it in Google. I would be very happy if somebody would recognize the song and artist with the following criteria:

  • The CD on which I heard the song was, as far as I remember, a techno or trance collection.
  • In the particular song, a very strong woman voice sings (or shouts) several times "This is house music!" I liked her voice very much. It's a very strong and clear voice speaking to a large audience, at least I imagine so :)
  • I'm not sure whether it was another song on the same CD or whether it was in the same song but I remember also somehow "insomnia"... But I might be wrong in this case.

Hoping that somebody would help me... Thanks in advance :) --Tilmanb (talk) 11:46, 5 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Is this it? Theleftorium 13:03, 5 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
No :( In this song, there is even no strong woman voice singing "this is house music". In the song I am looking for, the voice is really in the foreground. Not all the time of course but a few times during the song or so... --Tilmanb (talk) 05:36, 6 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
When you say 'insomnia' do you mean this song [1] - if so that might narrow it down a bit. Also if you know is it an old (eg 80's or 90's song)83.100.250.79 (talk) 19:09, 6 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm, I might have been thinking of that song but no, that was not the song I was looking for. But this song reminds me that "insomnia" was NOT mentioned in the song I am looking for :) So, I AM looking for a song where a woman sings "this is house music"! Unfortunately I don't know from which year the song is (but my guess is 90s or 00s). --Tilmanb (talk) 07:46, 7 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Follow up. Can't anybody remember any song where a woman is singing "this is house music"? I really really hope that somebody would find it for me... --Tilmanb (talk) 18:03, 12 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Please don't cut and paste whole sections of the refdesk. It seems clear that nobody was able to find your song given the limited information. If you really feel a need to ask again, a simple mention of the earlier section would suffice. --LarryMac | Talk 17:33, 14 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
It's a fair point - but if anyone can remember a song such as this it might help since there's a possiblity the vocals might be sampled - and knowing the origin of the sample might help to find the song. I hope you find it, have you tried other 'ref desks' or even music forums?83.100.250.79 (talk) 21:05, 14 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Larry, sorry, I am new to WP so don't quite know yet what is allowed and what now. I won't do it again. About other red desks or music forums, I don't know any!! Can you suggest some? I would be happy to give them a try :) --Tilmanb (talk) 06:17, 16 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

what is theatre? drame?[edit]

it is suppose to state your thought.

I don't understand what your question is. We have articles on theatre and drama ("drame" is French for drama). Are you asking about the difference between the two? ---Sluzzelin talk 11:27, 14 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Soul Eater fight[edit]

In which chapter of Soul Eater is the fight between Blair and Mizune? --217.247.67.90 (talk) 16:33, 14 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The Wikipedia article on this series lists at least three possible locations for the island. Does a real island exist in any of those places? Is it possible for a small boat on a three hour trip to get caught in a storm that blows it 250 - 300 miles from it's point of origin? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.52.253.33 (talk) 20:27, 14 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I do not find it reasonable to assume that a storm would blow a small craft like that at 100mph (land speed) and keep the crew and most of the boat intact. -- kainaw 20:38, 14 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
For the final bit, it's certainly possible. Remember that "a three hour tour" was the intended duration, and has no bearing on how long a storm would actually last. For the first, there's an island near 10 N 110 W (10.3 N 109.2 W). It's the location furthest from Hawaii but is ~700 miles from Mexico. The other two locations appear empty. — Lomn 20:43, 14 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
