Duane Allman slide guitar scale

[edit]

Duane Allman said that when playing slide guitar, he listened to harmonica players rather than guitarists. The article blues harmonica talks about blues players using Mixolydian mode, with the flatted 7th, whereas much blues guitar uses flatted 3rd and flatted 7th. Did Allman use Mixolydian mode when playing slide? Bubba73 You talkin' to me? 00:23, 17 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Seems that he at least sometimes played slide guitar in mixolydian mode. See e.g. here [1] for an example and here [2] for some general discussion. SemanticMantis (talk) 15:54, 20 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, that points me in the right direction. Bubba73 You talkin' to me? 20:49, 23 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Guitar lecture video

[edit]

I'm trying to find again a youtube video if it still exists where Pat Metheny lectures in a TV show to young students. He emphasizes individual voice, refering to Michael Jackson. Playing Autumn leaves together with a rythm machine, Metheny demonstrates how the guitar not only plays melody notes, but also base and rythm, he explains how this way of playing characterices Americana (music), Rosenkohl (talk) 21:57, 17 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
