- That is part of it, but also, cinematic techniques had not been developed. The early films were more or less stage plays with a camera placed at the fourth wall. Britmax (talk) 10:52, 16 October 2016 (UTC)

- However, the camera did sometimes move - the camera dolly was apparently invented in 1907 and first used in a major film - Cabiria - in 1914.[1]
