ST:TOS

[edit]

What was the episode called, where the Enterprise crew is mostly turned into dodecahedron-shaped paperweights or so? A few of them get crumbled into dust and can't be recovered, but the rest are eventually changed back. I don't remember much else about the episode. Thanks. 2601:648:8202:96B0:0:0:0:4FFF (talk) 04:40, 24 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Sound like "By Any Other Name": "Once the ship has crossed the galactic barrier, the Kelvans reduce all personnel except Kirk, Scott, Spock, and McCoy into chalk-like blocks." --Canley (talk) 06:37, 24 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! Yes that has to be the right one. 2601:648:8202:96B0:0:0:0:4FFF (talk) 07:11, 24 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
By the way, although the objects that the crew members are turned into were inspired by a dodecahedron in Gene Roddenberry's office, they were not actually dodecahedrons, but cuboctahedrons. I suspect that whoever manufactured the props found this shape easier to produce since it can be done by simply starting with a cube, marking the midpoint of each edge, and cutting each corner back as far as the midpoints to create the triangular faces. (One-half of the area of each original square face is cut away.) --142.112.159.101 (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 08:27, 24 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, the episode article mentioned the shape. I enjoyed finding out that detail. 2601:648:8202:96B0:0:0:0:4FFF (talk) 06:49, 25 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Is it worth mentioning here that the cuboctahedron is dual to the rhombic dodecahedron? Probably not. —Tamfang (talk) 19:01, 25 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Autism fanfiction

Hi all!

I am currently writing a paper about representations of autism in fanfiction on Archive of Our Own and fanfiction.net. I am planning to examine around 4-6 pieces of fanfiction which contains autism, and was wondering whether anyone could recommend me some more controversial fanfiction containing autism (as I can't think of a way to search for such works on these sites)? Any advice is gratefully received!

Thanks in advance. Best wishes, 80.6.3.235 (talk) 11:13, 24 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Need Help and/or Tips on Identifying a Manga

[edit]

There is a page of manga that piques my interests and I would really like to know where it is from. This is the page in question: https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/d83308e60cd10cdf857ed58c337fede9b7ea9e62d0f8108a879621a77d8d8fb4.jpg

I have tried using Google Image Search with no luck. Through my own investigation on Reddit, I found that this image was posted on a Disqus comment section on one of the illegal manga streaming sites, hence the fact that those manga sites do not show up on Google search, while the person who originally posted it was also asking where it originates. In any case, judging from the lack of dialogue in the bubbles, this is most likely a draft or a preview of some kind of a manga that might or might not be locked behind a paywall. I cannot speak Japanese, Chinese, or Koreans and so I cannot effectively search on sites such as Pixiv let alone ask people on there for help. I would really appreciate any tip in this search. 70.95.44.93 (talk) 12:39, 24 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I tried using TinEye, but it doesn't find it either. --142.112.159.101 (talk) 23:08, 26 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
