Star Trek ships

[edit]

I have just seen the last episode of Star Trek: Lower Decks season 3, and there is much discussion about the ships of California-class, Texas-class and such. So far the series used to say that the Cerritos was California-class, but I ignored it as mere technobabble (it was the type of ship of the show's titular ship, and that was basically all I needed to know). But know I feel I would like to know which (if there is any) is the diference between California, Texas, Intrepid, Constitution, Galaxy, etc. Spacecraft in Star Trek has out-of-universe info, which is fine and all, but I ask about the in-universe info, the one I follow as a spectator. Memory Alpha has a whole list of linked articles on the various classes in all their techoglory. For example, the Californias' warp engine has (will have?) inverted plasma distributors![1] Figuring out the class differences is your mission, should you choose to accept it. Impossible? I think not. Clarityfiend (talk) 07:58, 15 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
They never try to make low volt panels that don't explode power transmission plasma each time the ship takes a hit or keep a recent copy of everyone's body in the computer so they can't die. Away team taken hostage? No problem, just don't send (luddites?) who consider the transporter death, nuke the hostage takers and resurrect the away team with the save file. Also Data should be able to fight ships better than the bridge crew talking to each other and waiting for Picard to decide and give an order, when the ship's in danger they should probably just have Data do every non-social thing even if he has to physically type 200 times a second into a console showing the bridge consoles on a 0.1 second rotation. You should have given us an advance warning to don our sarcasm deflector suits.  --Lambiam 08:13, 16 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
