Pinnock, UK graphic designer, fl. 1959

Who was "Pinnock", who designed this 1959 advertisement? Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 13:40, 15 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Possibly Alan Pinnock MSIA[?], see [1] and Spirit of Granada p. 253. No. 2 Golden Square, Soho, was the London offices of Granada Television. I used to deliver 1-inch video cans there as a despatch rider in the early 1980s. Pics:[2][3] MinorProphet (talk) 17:32, 15 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Or maybe it was Saatchi's by then, and I'm thinking of 2-inch video cases for LWT at the South Bank Centre in the late 70s. MinorProphet (talk) 22:40, 15 February 2024 (UTC) [reply]

From the book Sidney Bernstein: A Biography, pp. 264–5:
At about the time Granada went on the air, Sidney took on a young designer called Alan Pinnock. It was an extremely happy choice. Between the two of them was devised most of Granada's famously muted and elegant publicity.[5] ... In time, the Papert, Koenig and Lois contract came to an end and most publicity fell to Alan Pinnock, by now well schooled in Sidney's taste for plain, factual, elegant material, in his mania for fiddling with detail, and in his occasional aberrations, like a demand that the word Granada be written in ever larger type, or an unfortunate passion for the combination of red and yellow.[6]
He is also mentioned briefly in the book Granada Television--The First Generation.[7]  --Lambiam 13:34, 16 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
