EI logo

Can anyone please help me interpret the Arabic part of this logo? Does it simply translate "Electronic Intifada"? What would be a reasonable transliteration into roman as used by English speakers? Many thanks if anyone can ~ VeledanTalk 13:25, 28 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I think it just says "Intifada". —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Angr (talkcontribs). 14:26, 28 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
It's "Intifada" without "Electronic" (and without the Arabic definite article, but with a hamza below whose presence is dubiously correct according to formal Arabic grammar): إنتفاضة - AnonMoos 14:31, 28 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks guys. I bought one of their t-shirts and I don't like wearing words I dont know :-) ~ VeledanTalk 17:15, 28 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
So that does mean you support the intifada? 惑乱 分からん 19:28, 28 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
What's the final twiddle? It looks rather different to the glyph with which I see "intifada" usually written.  --LambiamTalk 18:59, 28 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
The final glyph looks like a lazily-written ta marbuta to me...at least, it doesn't look like any other letter... Adam Bishop 06:15, 29 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
No it's a legitimate ta marbuta. It's more of a Script font which simulates handwriting. CG 07:55, 29 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Um, did you read intifada before buying the shirt? Walking around with a shirt that says "intifada" on it is like walking around with a shirt that says Ku Klux Klan on it to some people. -- Mwalcoff 23:53, 28 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
That's excessively melodramatic. EI is a credible newsblog, and anyone who thinks that the term intifada is comparable to KKK has misunderstood one or the other ~ VeledanTalk 23:20, 31 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
