Search engine problems

[edit]

I'm attempting to gather sources to create an article but google search news seems to regularly delete some quality sources from its listing. For example I searched google news a while ago and found a good source, but today that source was missing from google news. Google news seems increasingly worthless. Should i just search the (non-news) general Google search engine, and if so, are there any keys/tags I could type to minimize all the junk or maximize quality sources? 92.19.191.226 (talk) 19:07, 25 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Search scholar.google.com for peer-reviewed publications.
Have you tried Wikipedia Library?Tamanoeconomico (talk) 23:53, 25 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@2600... I don't like google scholar since usually you can't access the sources. I want a way to reverse Google's habit of gutting search return from Google news. Going on an anecdotal guess, only about 30 percent of quality news sources show up there. I wanna find the other 70% without sifting through tons of crap 92.19.183.122 (talk) 00:20, 26 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Tamanoeconomico Eww. That looks terrible ... and complicated. 92.19.183.122 (talk) 00:20, 26 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
When searching in google news, if I click on "Tools" it shows that "recent" is ticked by default. I can then change this recent to "past year" or "archives" to see much earlier news. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 00:57, 26 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I don't have a tools option (MSIE in Win 7) - where is it on the page? -- SGBailey (talk) 09:13, 26 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
He's not talking about news.google.com, he's talking about searching from the main Google home page and then selecting 'News' from the menu that appears above the list of results. Then the 'Tools' option is on the right. --Viennese Waltz 10:44, 26 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
