European Cup trophy

[edit]

Why was the European Cup winning team once given two trophies, the first the traditional big one and the other a small cup? Notice in the movie the whole thing, from minute 5:40. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CCMSPYIb5HQ Thank you.

I can't say for that particular cup but the small cup is usually kept by the winning team in their silverware (trophy) cabinet while the "big" cup is returned for next year's winner. e.g. The FIFA World Cup winner gets a gold plated replica and the original is returned. 196.213.35.147 (talk)
See European Champion Clubs' Cup for the big trophy. The history has varied between returning it next year, getting it permanently after several wins, and never getting it but only a replica. PrimeHunter (talk) 10:30, 13 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I have corrected my request: as you can see in the link below, this is Steaua Bucharest with the European Cup won in 1986. And here is the question: why the winning team has two trophies, the first the traditional big, and the other a miniature version? Thank you. Could it be that the little one is a replica from a fan? Is there also a third cup inside the big cup? --Dweller (talk) Become old fashioned! 13:16, 14 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

No I do not think so. Maybe it's a replica for the players, I don't know if they took it in turn to keep it, but I could say nonsense or it may be as you say.
