What do you call a school's rock?

[edit]

During the George Floyd protests a lot of schools have painted positive messages on their rocks. Some schools' rocks have been vandalized by people who think "All Lives Matter" or "Blue Lives Matter", or by people who are simply racist.

I don't know how to find a source at this point, but the custom of a school (I think it's an American thing) having a large rock seems to have begun as a place for people to vandalize so they wouldn't deface anything else, although it is mostly used for positive messages.— Vchimpanzee • talk • contributions • 21:12, 28 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Spirit rock. --Khajidha (talk) 22:04, 28 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
This doesn't answer your specific question, but look at Founders' Rock (at Berkeley) and Plymouth Rock. They were not (authentic or not) placed or set aside as a diversionary target for vandals. —— Shakescene (talk) 02:09, 29 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Is Plymouth Rock associated with a school?  --Lambiam 09:09, 29 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
We have an article Senior rock, which does not suggest an association of these glacial erratics with (redirection of) vandalism. Currently Spirit rock redirects to Prahlad Friedman who has the nickname "Spirit Rock", while page Spirit Rock is a disambiguation page. I think a better redirect target for Spirit rock is Senior rock.  --Lambiam 09:26, 29 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. This solves the problem. Prahlad Friedman seems like a strange redirect target for Spirit rock if his name is capitalized, and it seems that should be the disambiguation page.— Vchimpanzee • talk • contributions • 15:40, 29 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I would suggest redirecting "Spirit Rock" to Friedman and "Spirit rock" to "Senior rock" with the current "Spirit Rock" page becoming "Spirit rock (disambiguation). --Khajidha (talk) 15:59, 29 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Disambiguation tags for the Friedman and senior rock pages?--Khajidha (talk) 17:33, 29 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
 Done. Forgot about that.— Vchimpanzee • talk • contributions • 17:39, 29 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I moved the disambiguation page to Spirit rock (disambiguation) and ensured that both Prahlad Friedman and Senior rock have a link to that disambig page. --Khajidha (talk) 17:54, 30 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
