The egg came first, since the question does not specify what type of egg. MercuryOxide (talk) 03:46, 10 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The question does not specify what type of egg, but we know that eggs are either free-range eggs or battery eggs. A free-range egg comes from a free-range chicken. A battery egg comes from a battery chicken. Therefore the egg comes from the chicken, not the other way around.  --Lambiam 07:00, 10 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Lambiam, you've missed the point. Proto-chickens laid eggs, therefore the first modern chicken must have come from an egg (and yes, I do know the dividing line is not that abrupt – this is a half-line summary).
