Size of Berlin Metro Area makes no sense[edit]

In the current revision (link), size of berlin metro area is listed as 30,546 km^2. This number is larger than the entire Brandenburg State, which is 29,480.24 km^2. To put this in perspective, it's like saying San Francisco is larger than California itself. Is this possible? I think the statistic for the Metro Area size comes from this source, Initiativkreis Europäische Metropolregionen in Deutschland. I'm still trying to find out about the rest. Card Zero (talk) 20:59, 10 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The area of Brandenburg doesn't include the area of Berlin itself, so your comparison with San Francisco/California is a bit off (San Francisco is part of California, but Berlin is not part of Brandenburg). —Kusma (talk) 21:11, 10 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Yes. Old versions of the Brandenburg article said Brandenburg surrounds but does not include the national capital and city-state Berlin forming a metropolitan area. Newer versions have rephrased this to Brandenburg surrounds the national capital and city-state of Berlin, and together they form the Berlin/Brandenburg Metropolitan Region. Probably it was better phrased the first way. Also, the articles should be citing sources for the numbers. Card Zero (talk) 21:15, 10 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The area of "Haupstadtregion Berlin-Brandenburg" is given here as "30.545,5 qkm". We give the area of the State of Berlin as 891.3 km² and that of the State of Brandenburg as 29,480.24 km², together 30,371.5 km². Can the discrepancy of 174 km² be due to the source including the areas of lakes not accounted for in our data? --Lambiam 21:13, 10 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Ha, it uses "30,545 square kilometres (11,793 sq mi)" in the lead, but "30,370 km² (11,730 sq mi)" in the infobox. The official website of Berlin-Brandenburg gives the area of Berlin as 891 km² and that of Brandenburg as 29,654 km²,^[1] which adds up to 30,545 km². The German Wikipedia gives the area of Brandenburg in the infobox as 29,654.16 km², but the official website of Brandenburg has "seine Gesamtfläche von 29.476 km²",^[2] so now the discrepancy has grown to 178 km². --Lambiam 10:22, 11 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
