Wikipedia:Requests for feedback/2010 July 30

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ok people, what do you think? Also, how do you upload pictures and such?

~~Anurean (talk) 00:49, 30 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Good start but you have a number of issues to address:
  • First, why is the working title "JohnLambert.net"? It isn't terribly important to make the user space title match the intended final title, but it is good practice. There already are a number of articles about people called John Lambert, so you might start thinking about what name would be best. The usual procedure is to give the article a name such as John Lambert(musician) or John Lambert(poet), then add the name to the John Lambert disambiguation page. If you tell me which title you'd prefer, I'll be happy to move to a new user page, so that the final move will be easier.
  • It is good to add categories, but you've done it wrong, and it is discouraged to add categories in user space. I'll remove the existing bad code for now.
  • You asked how to add pictures. Wikipedia:Images is the place to start. It isn't hard, but the first time is often tricky so don't hesitate to ask for help if the instructions aren't clear.
  • References are important, but there are two problems with the items in your references section - they aren't references, they are external links. When the term is used in Wikipedia, it means a footnote to a citation identifying where assertions are supported. See footnotes and WP:CITE.
  • Asserting Notability is important, see the link for details.
  • I'm removing a claim made about his medial medical condition. It is acceptable to include, but only with a proper citation to a reliable source.--SPhilbrickT 14:40, 1 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Please check & let me know if any changes are required before publishing the same.

Thanks & Regards

Satyaki

I'm sorry to report that I see a number of problems:
  • The format doesn't follow the standards outlined in the Manual of Style.
  • However, before reviewing that, please look into establishing the Notability of the term. On a minor note, you use the BE spelling of "vapour" in the proposed title, but AE "vapor" in the article.
  • I can find no mention of "Excess Vapour Reservoir" in Google, which doesn't mean it doesn't exist, but the burden is on you to show that the term is used in multiple reliable sources.
  • I can find a very few instances of "Excess Vapor Reservoir". Here is one. It is not referring to the same thing you are talking about.
  • I cannot find evidence that the term was coined by TVS --SPhilbrickT 14:57, 1 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, new to this. Let me know how my article can be improved. Cheers, Ethan.

Okay, there seems to be a problem with the reference at the bottom. Also, an infobox would be a good idea - you can use a template like this. One final thing would be to find additional reliable references and add them to the article, as there isn't many at the moment. Thanks, and I hope this helps. Hi there, let me know how this can be improved. There is a cite error that I'm aware of, not sure how to fix that. Let me know, Thanks. Ethan

I have reviewed your new article, and I have taken the liberty of cleaning it up a bit. Please take a look at the revised article and notice the changes I have made. Edit the page to look at the Wiki-syntax used to create proper references and internal links (called "WikiLinks"). I hope you can take these improvements and use them in other articles you might like to create. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 12:30, 30 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. I've created an article about newly created and becoming popular website Facebook Search. It’s built upon combination of Google custom search and Facebook’s publicly available API, which allows one to make keyword search among all kinds of data which is indexed by Google on Facebook and search for public Facebook updates using Facebook’s own search service. Please, review it and suggest if some changes should be added. Thank you.

Good afternoon.

My name is Cameron Watson. I am from Canada.

I am new to all things Wikipedia - I have worked in the information technology business for over 25 years and am hoping to share some of my knowledge. I have prepared the article "Integrated IT Methodology" and am hoping it will be of benefit to the readership.

I want to make it available for suggestion/critique so that it can be enhanced - hoping to get a better understanding of the Wipipedia protocol and how I can make a contribution.

Thanks. Cameron.

Try not to rely on IMBD so much for references - try and find references from other websites. Also an infobox is good just to summarise the key points - Template:Infobox film is a good template you can use. Chevymontecarlo 08:29, 1 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
The film fails Wikipedia notability guidelines for films, so the article has been proposed for deletion. However, for the purpose of feedback:
  1. The article title should be "An Insignificant Harvey", not "An Insignificant Harvey The Film", as there is no other article named "An Insignificant Harvey" so any further disambiguation is unnecessary.
  2. As pointed out by Chevymontecarlo above, the article should follow the general outlined defined by the Wikipedia Manual of Style for Film articles, namely:
    • Lead: a general introduction of the film (An Insignificant Harvey is a 2010 Canadian dramatic film by filmmaker Jeff Kopas, starring... It tells the story of ...)
    • Plot: a fuller explanation of the plot than provided in the lead, but avoiding any copyright violations by not copying the plot synopsis from any other sources.
    • Cast
    • Production -- notes about the production: budget, locations, etc.
    • Reception -- notes about how the film was received: reviews, box office results, etc.
    • Infobox -- the template {{Infobox film}} provides a standard "snapshot" of the film's pertinent information.
I hope this feedback will be useful to you in your future Wikipedia editing endeavors. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 16:53, 18 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
