The Hang Out Zone
Note
This is the discussion page for Rolling Ball. This is where all our editors, both new and experienced, discuss ideas and highlight WikiProjects and other such places which others might want to look into. All the things you would want to discuss with other editors go here. All the things related to Rolling Ball itself go to the talk page. All the members of the Group are requested to Watchlist/keep an eye on this page.

Here's a ball to roll for you all...[edit]

If anyone is interested in helping me out at Politics of Rhode Island, a once-crummy stub which I did not create but am in the long-term process of overhauling into a legitimate article, I would love your help. I have been working at it on-and-off, with almost no help, for a few months now. However, since this is a group dedicated to keeping the ball rolling, maybe this would be a good ball to keep rolling? Not too knowledgeable there, but I've watchlisted the article and will add to it if I come across anything noteworthy. Is there anything specific (e.g., ref improvements or something of that nature) that needs done that doesn't require knowledge of the political structure of RI? Go Phightins! 12:16, 19 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
There are certainly some items that have been added that could use some refs (I tend to Google an abbreviated version of the fact and find something reliable, perhaps with more info to add as well). Additionally, if you don't have significant background knowledge, some good places to start research are Infoplease, Dave Leip's Atlas of U.S. Presidential Elections, Congressional Biographical Directory, National Governors Association, and databases such as EBSCOhost. The most pressing issue is that the last 50 years have not been added yet in the "History" section. RedSoxFan2434 (talk) 00:40, 21 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

This is a project that is going to the Main Page very soon, but needs some help to get things going. Right now, there are just 3 of us working to get this project up and going before it makes the main page. We could surely use some help there from other editors - We surely need it!!! Thanks and cheers! TheOriginalSoni (talk) 12:51, 19 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I think there are a bit more than three editors working there now (believe me, it used to be much more inactive). AutomaticStrikeout (TC) 19:58, 19 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, joined that project! --Tito Dutta (talk) 13:13, 19 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I think a great deal of progress has been made in recenet months to promote collaboration on the Wiki, and I would like to update this page to reflect that. It has seen no major updates since 2007, and it would be nice to get some input on how it could promote collaboration. The page currently gets upwards of 1400 views a month and is linked from the Community Portal via the {Cotm} template. --NickPenguin(contribs) 20:36, 19 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Keeping it rolling[edit]

How likely is this to keep rolling, considering the retirement of TheOriginalSoni? -- Trevj (talk) 11:07, 31 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I'd love to see someone take this under his/her wing as Soni did, although it would be even better if we could move forward as a group. The only work that has to be done to maintain the "Rolling Ball" page and "Hang Out Zone" are basically recruiting new members. Any good way to do that as a group? RedSoxFan2434 (talk) 23:26, 31 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I may be mistaken but I don't think Soni's retirement is permmanent. I thinks its more a "school is taking up my time" retirement. See Editor retires EotW project. Does not get watch for days of service ```Buster Seven Talk 22:41, 4 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Editor of the Week[edit]

A collaboration that some of you may not be aware of is Wikipedia:WikiProject Editor Retention/Editor of the Week, where we are seeking to identify productive editors who have received little recognition for their efforts. Perhaps you know of somebody who fits that criteria and you would like to nominate him or her to be a future editor of the week. AutomaticStrikeout (TC) 17:56, 4 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I've made some efforts to rejuvenate and recruit potentially-interested editors to this project. Check it out. Northamerica1000(talk) 12:46, 6 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

A relatively new WikiProject. Northamerica1000(talk) 12:47, 6 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

RfB[edit]

Not sure that the ball is still rolling here, but in case it is, let me point your attention to the fact that there were only 5 RfB last year and there have been zero this year. I would encourage any editor that reads this to try and think of someone to encourage to run for cratship. AutomaticStrikeout (TC) 22:55, 9 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Still have it watchlisted; TP and DB would be at the top of my list, but I highly doubt either is interested. Go Phightins! 23:21, 9 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
