Wikipedia:Speedy deletion patrol

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Speedy deletion patrol is a WikiProject to patrol recent deletions of articles to seek undeletion of articles that may not have been properly deleted under the speedy deletion policy. This page is intended to coordinate effort in patrolling the deletion log to retrieve articles that should not have been deleted.

The undeletion policy provides for the undeletion of articles that have clearly been deleted out-of-process — for instance, during recent-changes or newpages patrol when there is no applicable criterion for speedy deletion. Articles that may still be deletable (but not speedily deletable) may be listed on Wikipedia:Articles for deletion.

Newpages patrol and RC patrol are unpleasant tasks, and the workload is such that the admirable people who do it may well make mistakes. As such, the emphasis here is not on policy enforcement for the sake of it, but recovering genuinely useful material that shouldn't have been deleted — to act as a catcher. Speedy deletion patrollers tend not to query borderline cases. According to Jimbo, "it's ok for people doing newpages patrol . . . to err in the defense of quality, and . . . resurrecting a few things here and there behind them is a small price to pay for [avoiding inaccuracies]" [1].
