A software release template belonging to a deleted article. Non-used template The Banner talk 21:15, 6 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I have a draft in my sandbox that I'm updating (User:TuxPaper/sandbox/BiglyBT). It has an Software Infobox which I wish to setup with external release data. I followed Template:Infobox_software#Moving_release_data_outside_the_article but that obviously makes a non-draft template, which as you point out, ends up being listed as non-used. Is there documentation on a way to make a draft version that will display correctly in my sandbox draft page? TuxPaper (talk) 23:03, 6 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
As long as there is no community approved article about BiglyBT, the template will be unused. And with your declared COI it is a very bad idea that you work on an article about Bigly. The Banner talk 23:17, 6 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Ignoring COI for the moment, how have previous draft articles setup their templates so that everything would be ready for a review, without running into the "non-used template" issue? If one of the points of a draft is to have it as complete and professional as possible for a reviewer to judge its validity, how have draft creators managed templates like this in the past? (This isn't a rhetorical question, but a genuine one). I don't disagree with your assessment, but I am seeking documentation or direction on this issue in general. TuxPaper (talk) 23:27, 6 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I have checked a few cases and in all cases the article was older then the template. The Banner talk 08:26, 7 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
One of the reasons this stupid setup fails. It's just a simple line of text, just put it in the infobox like every other piece of text. --Gonnym (talk) 08:29, 7 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was subst and delete. Please make sure that when substing the template the blank params are not included to avoid unnecessary code added to the page (which may require some sandboxing). Primefac (talk) 23:54, 25 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Replace and delete

Municipality-specific wrapper for {{Infobox settlement}}, with limited transclusions, on pretty stable sets of articles. Subst:itution will reduce the maintenance overhead, reduce the cognitive burden for editors, and enable articles to benefit more immediately from improvements to the current parent template.

Note: Despite being named "Infobox settlement" the template is not only used for settlements. Per its documentation, Infobox settlement is "used to produce an Infobox for human settlements (cities, towns, villages, communities) as well as other administrative districts, counties, provinces, et cetera—in fact, any subdivision below the level of a country".

Wikipedia:List_of_infoboxes/Geography_and_place#Place:

  1. The only Arab-country having a specific place infobox
  2. The only non-UN-member having a specific place infobox

{{main other|{{#invoke:Settlement short description|main|{{{settlement_type|{{{type|}}}}}}|{{{short_description|}}}|{{{subdivision_name|}}}|{{{subdivision_name1|}}}|{{{subdivision_name2|}}}}}|}}
Are you aware of any other set of administrative territorial entities that has specific code to generate a short description. In {{Infobox Palestine municipality}} which will be displayed, the selfmade or the one from {{Infobox settlement}}? 77.183.46.198 (talk) 23:44, 7 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I am not aware of any other specific infoboxes that specifically automatically generate short description code. It would be possible (I think) to implement this with {{Infobox settlement}} by setting the governate value to the subdivision_name parameter and type to the type parameter. However I am still undecided. Dreamy Jazz 🎷 talk to me | my contributions 09:44, 8 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Solved. Code has been changed to use the short description code in {{Infobox settlement}}. TerraCyprus (talk) 12:00, 8 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I noticed there is a blank parameter, however, I am unsure whether the meaning of a name can be summed up in a short enough way for an infobox. I will support substitution if the |meaning= parameter is removed from the infobox before substitution. I will oppose substitution if this parameter is kept. My reasoning against blank parameters in infoboxes can be found in The TfD for Template:Infobox Prefecture Japan. Dreamy Jazz 🎷 talk to me | my contributions 21:46, 18 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

JJMC89 could you close this? 1x Keep, 3x Replace and delete. Also the template code has been changed, concerns of the 1x Neutral vote addressed. 89.14.130.139 (talk) 11:32, 16 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

JJMC89 why is this not closed? Discussions started June 10 are closed [1], but this one started June 6 is not. 77.11.125.202 (talk) 21:07, 18 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
See WP:NOTCOMPULSORY. It is his choice whether he wants to close this TfD and if he does, at what time he wants to close this. Dreamy Jazz 🎷 talk to me | my contributions 21:46, 18 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
User:Dreamy Jazz, what was the question? Ooops, yes, it was why the choice by JJMC89 was taken to not close this one. 89.14.159.64 (talk) 11:01, 19 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
My statement also covered the why. It is his choice whether he wants to say why he has closed other discussions and not this one. Dreamy Jazz 🎷 talk to me | my contributions 11:27, 19 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Delete Per nom pretty much. The nominator replaced the call to this template to {{rint}} last year on Template:Pacific Electric, which I agree with, as it's better to standardise this kind of template to help with maintainability. • Keep - No doubt this template is only going to grow as he releases more singles and some songs from his EP may also chart. Certain people *cough* need to find more constructive work on WP instead of always trying to get rid of templates.—NØ 09:57, 6 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
See WP:CRYSTAL. If and when more there are more notable releases, then a navbox can be recreated. Until then, this navbox serves no purpose. Some people should find more constructive things to do than create useless navboxes. --woodensuperman 10:05, 6 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
